Tips for skiing near Geneva

I'm coming to Geneva for a 3-month internship, which happily coincides with the ski season. Is there easy access without a car to skiing in the area? Any tips on where to go and how to get there would be great. Keeping in mind I won't be paid for my job, the cheaper the better!

Well there is plenty of ski resorts that you can access by train.  Verbier for instance there are others too.  If you watch Glocals there will be lots of people heading to the mountains for ski days, often willing to car share with a small petrol contribution.  Lastly I think there are bus trips/packages that include lift tickets but I don't have any experience.

Good luck and see you on the mountain.

www.gare-routiere.ch/

for the bus tickets (with lift passes) to lots of places, esp. French destinations. Nothing is listed yet though, as there's no snow yet, so no ski trips to book :)

With the cheap Euro the options from the gare routière are the cheapest. Places like Verbier are expensive.  When you get over hear it is also worth checking with SAT

The Geneva buses used to stop in Annemasse and it was a lot cheaper to get your ticket and ski pass there but I think now there are services which start in Annemass. You save money but you have the hassle of getting to Annemasse bus station (poissible in the morning with public transport but more complicated in the evening) Only worth it if you are staying that end of Geneva

HI Gwen - Don't forget the mountains to the north of Geneva - The Jura mountains - just 20 mins by car from Geneva. There is great skiing here, especially if you are looking for weekend skiing. http://www.jura-tourism.com/. I will be running a Bed & Breakfast at the weekends from January nearby to the slopes, so contact me if you are interested. Cheers, Siany

Focused towards those wanting to learn or progress their skiing / snowboarding this winter in the Portes du Soleil area (Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets & Chatel). It contains info on ski / snowboard schools, short stay accommodation and travel from Geneva to the area. Check it out and hope its of help: Geneva Ski / Snowboard Info

Hi Siany

Like Gwen, I;m looking for affordable skiing options from geneva this winter. I keep hearing great things about the Jura, but am finding it tough to find a way to get up there without a car. Do you have any good advice?

Thanks in advance,

Matt.

Well I am not sure why you would want to ski in the Jura but I know it is possible to take a bus to Gex (the F) and then I believe they have a bus sometimes that runs to resort.  There website might have more information.

Gwen - Chamonix, there are shuttles from the airport every hour I think. About 1h drive, road is straight line and always well maintained. You know it's an expensive sport so the day pass won't be cheap. Keep on eye on buyclub.ch, they have deals from time to time.
