Best place to live?

Hi Basel — Eric here. After moving for work and spending months trying to figure out where to actually live, close to the office? cheaper towns out on the train lines? which areas are quiet vs loud? where do the taxes bite less? I gave up on existing websites and built the tool I wished existed.

VivaMap (https://vivamap.ch/en/) rates places across Switzerland on 9 livability dimensions (transport, noise, air quality, schools, taxes, nature, healthcare, services, sunlight), 0-10 scale, fully comparable across the canton and beyond.

For the Basel crowd, two things tend to land: (1) the transport + noise scores make the "is this town a bit further away on the train line actually livable" question concrete, and (2) the tax explorer (/taxes/) shows where your specific household — say "dual-income couple, no kids, 250k" — pays less, including the low-tax spots people always mention but rarely quantify. Live ESTV data.

Free, no signup, no ads, FR/DE/EN.

I would love your feedback! especially if you think a score is off for an area you know or any suggestion to improve the tool further.
