Bern Zoo good for kids?

Hi all,

Anyone know if the Bern Zoo has big animals (elephants etc) and if it's walking distance from the Bern train station?

Their site is in German only, and I can't figuere it out.

Thanks,

Nir

Hi Nir,

I've not been to Tierpark but I don't think it has very big animals such as elephants but it does have a vivarium, exotic mammals, reptiles etc. It also has a petting zoo, large playground and restaurant.

Bus 19 goes to Tierpark so that may be an option for transport. Bern isn't that big but dependent on how old the kids are, it may be worthwhile to get the bus there rather than walk (at a rough guess it's about 20 mins or more walk from the bahnhof, by the Aare to Tierpark although it is a lovely walk).

Another option would be Papiliorama in Kerzers: http://www.papiliorama.ch/default.asp?OrgID=5&Language=EN

I hope that helps, Susanne.

Bro, stretch a bit more and come to Zurich!

They have huge elephants and also tigers and lions.

Another attraction is the Madagascar hall which is quite interesting...

Now make your way to Zurich! Cool Wink

Cheers, E

And the biggest attraction of the Zurich Zoo: Ehsaan! (-: I kid bro.

I'm coming with TomTom by train, and he's not patient enough to sit more than 2 hours on a train. So it'll be Bern, or maybe Basel at a stretch...

Bern Zoo is not as good as Basel Zoo.... worth the extra 45 mins drive IMHO.

(then again Zuerich Zoo is better than them both.)

Oh and if you go over to Zueri Nir...go to Rapperswil, the Knie Circus has a petting zoo (Knie Kinder Zoo) with retired circus animals, the kids can ride on elephants and camels, and stroke a giant Rhino...or rather scrub him with a wire brush...amongst other things...

Kids love that place.... worth a weekend jaunt I think.
