Geneva Area Pet Swapping (GAPS) - pet sitting exchange network

After making a few postings about finding a long term dog sitter for my dog, Laika, and being inundated with emails and phone calls…. I realized there was a need for this in the area. People have GAPS in their lives and pets still need to be loved during this time.

It seems that many people have work obligations that sometimes make it necessary to leave town for a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Pet owners usually care very well for their loved ones and don’t want to leave them with just anyone. Additionally, it is very costly to pay for kennels for a couple of weeks, and sometimes they are booked over the holidays!

I am more than willing to gather information of people wanting to be part of a pet swapping network. I would gather contact details and information about pets of everyone involved. With all the information in a central location it would be possible to find someone who would be willing to swap dog sitting times.

It would not have to be a one on one trade, but could be traded with anyone in the network. So for example if you had someone watch your pet for 3 days, it would be kind to return the favor to the network of watching someone else’s dog for 3 days, and thus contribute back to the system. It would all be on an honor system.

I know I don’t mind having an extra dog around for a couple of days because it give my dog a friend to play with and it isn’t extra work for me because I am already going on walks and other dog related responsibilities.

If you are interested in being a part of this network (or are aware of a preexisting network) please email me the following information:

Humans Name:
Humans Address:
Humans phone number:
Humans email address:

Pets Name:
Pet species (dog, cat, pig…):
Pet Age:
Pet neutered: Yes or No
Pet temperament:
Special issues concerning pet care:

Humans working situation (ie 9-5, stay at home…)
Humans living condition (ie: studio apartment, 3 story house with backyard)
Are there little humans in the house? (some pets are no child friendly and this needs to be known)

Any other information you feel is important. Once I have gathered enough information I will find the best way to connect people in a digital format. (Don’t worry I will not share your details with anyone until a pet swap is necessary) If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me.

Thanks,
Laura & Laika

I hope it works out well - I'm thinking once you have all the information from those interested, a mass email list would work out very well, where people could just hit reply all in order to request a pet sitter or accept a pet seeking a sitter.

Hope everything works out great!
