How is it illegal to use someone else's address for sending letters and/or parcels?

The Swiss Post Office has several variants for such purposes, even in English:

I don't know of any legal reason against it.

I think to add another persons name to an address, you must notifiy the local post, so they know of the other names that can be delievered to 'an address'.

I know of many companies that sell 'Mailing addresses'. They are corporate service providers and sell companies setup services. Many also provide mailing and telephone services for the clients.

To open a PO Box, normally you need a local residential address and 'Business'. Sarl or SA will do, but see with a local post office for their rules.

Depending where you live, it’s not always that easy to have a PO Box.  Some years ago I applied for one at the Eaux-Vives PO but gave up when I was told there was a waiting list of around six months.

If you “loan” your address and then receive a lot of mail for a third party and the concièrge and/or the Régie get to know, you could be asked if someone has moved in to live with you.  (A concièrge once told me “I have a right to know who’s living in the building”.)  However, this does depend on how close an eye your caretaker keeps on “his” tenants’ comings and goings.

Personally, my advice would be to steer clear of any such arrangement, for all sorts of reasons.

Is it really illegal? Im just asking coz if you are not using it for legal registration. Example if I live in France and want to buy something from a swiss store and dont want to pay the extra is that illegal to give a friend's address?

I have doubts, that it is illegal. "Brad h" has a less than stellar track record, one of my favourite quote of his is, "indians have baby poping out machines". Proabably not the best person to take advice from, especially not legal...

I think you said you were prepared to pay something for the “loan” of a Swiss address?  If so, what saving will you make on having goods posted to Switzerland rather than France – not to mention all the hassle of phoning to say a parcel is on its way/ has arrived, and then arranging pick-up time, etc.

Notaries provide this kind of services. Also my friends were using the "c/o" option, means somebody's adress but care of another XXX.

Im not the original poster and Im giving a hypothetical question. I think most people like me do the other way round. order stuff and have them delivered to France. If I use a friend's address I would not need to pay.
