Does anyone know of some available cheap accommodation in Amsterdam for the 29th Dec-3rd Jan. Either a hostel, apartment to rent......

The city is positively teeming with hostels. Just go to the Central Station and throw a stone and you'll hit one.
If you want something a little more special and far from the madding crowds try Hotel Atlas (it's right off Vondelpark).
Good luck.

I did that once, go to the central station and try to get a room, it was a bit late (like 6pm) and everything was full. So we had to let the lugagge at an hostel (Bob's hostel, or something like that, it was ok), go to party, and come back at 8am to book a room/bed Quite fun, but not the best organized thing ever.
As you're going at a busy period, you prolly should book in advance. There are many cheap hostels in Amsterdam, the most famous one is probably the flying pig, it's well located, you may try to look if they aren't already full.
If you are 3-4, you could find a 2-3 stars hotel room for about the same price (like 100 euros a night, and a bed in a hostel cost around 25-28 I think).
