Advice for lining up an apartment before arrival?

Hello everyone!

We'll be moving to the Geneva area for probably September 1st (my wife and I), and I'm really hoping to have an apartment ready to move in for that date, and avoid any temporary accomodation. Has anyone done this or have experience with this, i.e. finding an apartment while not being physically there? We're moving from Canada if that makes any difference, and I will have a work permit.

Thanks for any advice!
