Advice of unemployment

Hello,

I have recently had a baby and am due to go back to work shortly.  I would like to stay at home a little longer with my baby and am thinking about resigning, does anyone know if i'd get any help from the Goverment?  I've heard lots of different things and am very confused!!  I've heard for the first month I wouldn't get any help but after that I'd get 70% of my salary, I have been working for the same company for 18 months now.  Also, I am due to go back 60% so if I am entiled to any payments would this be from my previous salary or reduced rate of 60%????

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

If you quit on your own accord, you usually forfait 4-6 weeks worth of income. In addition, you never earn your previous salary in unemployment fees, thus the 70% that you're talking about.

If you do quit now before you go in, it sounds to me like you'll get 70% of your salary prior to going on maternity leave, NOT the 70% of the salary you'd be getting when only working 60% of the time. However, it all depends on what papers you've signed with your employer in advance, as those can go on your record with the unemployment office once they begin to study your case.

It would be considered somewhat unlawful if you were to get 70% of your original salary knowing very well that this would have been higher than what you would have earned when working only 60% of the time (assuming you're actually earning 60% of your previous salary at that point), and whilst your employer could maybe "forge" papers for the unemployment office stating that no such agreement was to be held between you and them, I would just recommend caution in making the right decision.

that is all true. if you delcare to the unemployment office that you would only be looking for a 60% job, then you would get 70% of the 60% salary. but remember that you will have to show that you are actively looking for a new job. if not, you will get nothing. quiting (regardless of the reasons) is considered by the unemployment office as sanctionable and you will be penalised up to 30 work days of pay. unless you are leaving because you have another job within the coming month is the only excusable reason. of course if you got a doctor's certificate saying that you had post natal dpression or something similar, you would be able to stay away from work for quite a few months as per the dr.'s recomendation.
