Advice on buying property to let in haute savoie pls! :-)

Hi all,

I'm keen to hear from any of you that have investment properties in the haute savoie, and how well you are able to rent them out.

Do you manage to rent out in the summer as well as winter season?

Who is your summer customer base, mountain bikers, hikers or both?

I've heard estate agents promising the earth in terms of how easy the rent ability of a property will be, but have also heard from casual letters, that they struggle to let as the market is flooded. It might be that these people have rubbish properties, not well kept etc...

I'd love to hear your experiences, thanks!

Heather

We live in Evian-les-Bains

Hereabouts there is a very flourishing market for rental properties {at reasonable prices} because so many commuters take the boat to Lausanne. Additionally, with so many working for that very well-known multinational food company{!} apartments do not stay empty for long, generally speaking. But they have to offer a certain something, be clean, with few parking problems etc. etc.

If you need more help or information, including who are the cowboys to avoid, please send a PM.

Thanks Sheila.

Thats really interesting to know about evian les bains. I wouldn't have thought that people take the boat across the lake each day for their commute!

I agree all the details need to be correct for the clientele. But I'm very focussed on the mountain towns and villages to target the skiing and summer hiking or cycling crowd. If that doesn't look like a very good idea, then I may come back to you about yours.

Thanks for that.

There’s also a lot of  commuting across the lake nearer Geneva, to and from, say, Yvoire or Chens-sur-Léman.  Can be quite choppy when the bise blows.

They may have car-pooling arrangements as a back-up although I guess the Scots (should there be any) probably swim across.

Well Heather,

Our neighbours [who all commute on a daily basis] either drive around the lake, or take the replacement bus, but this of course takes a wee while longer.

Have a good w/e

Well, most of them will probably still be novices, the path to godliness being a long and arduous path (or so I’ve been told).
