Ok here is the asy one which I am sure many know:
You have 9 stones, one is lighter then the others, how do you tell using a scale and by using it just twice, which stone is lighter?
The next one is more difficult:
12 stones this time, one is a different weight but you do not know whether it is lighter or heavier, so how do you tell using a scal and using it 3 times which is a different weight?

place 3 stones on each side, if they balance then place one of 3 remaining stones on each side , if they balance then the 1 remaining stone is the light or if they don't balance the individual is indicated.
If the 3 stones each side didn't balance then take the stones from the lighter side place one on each side and use the same deduction as above.
Will think about the other one at lunch

That was a tough one but you got it - the trick was dividing into 4 and mixing the groups.
