IF (and according to the bible) Angels are just spirits and more literally, (according to Greek origin), "messengers".....oddly enough, Angels are always men, which could be why man invented the term "don't shoot the messenger"? .....)

SO if angels are just spirits/messengers, then they MUST exist, otherwise Sam would never have got in touch with Oda Mae Brown and Oda Mae Brown would never have got in touch with Molly.  And Molly would have gone off with horrid Carl, who was going to kill her anyway.  And Sam would never have been able to come back to Molly to tell her how much he loved her.

And the film wouldn't have had a happy ending - if it hadn't been for the Angels.

(Oh, and Demons must also exist - how else do you explain the  crazy guy who wanted to push Patrick Swayze off the train - huh???)

I did see the posts on Angel communication, and I was intriguingly amused (or perhaps amusingly intrigued).  Sidestepping for a minute the discussion on whether angels exist or not, various studies have shown that the human mind is capable of experiencing spirituality, and additionally, that religious people, are happier!  The (to me) fascinating book The Happiness Hypothesis sheds some light on this.

So, no drinks needed to get high (or happy)….just bring on the religion (and so much easier on the wallet as well, considering the drink prices in Geneva).

I think angels are more likely to exist in real life than Marx's theories...

I think I am not able to talk about sacred things (not yet?), so I am going to tell you about what my grandmother (or my uncle) was telling me about the human emotions, not the sacred ones (anyway I dont know if angels is related to Religion and sacred or not) : "all our happiness is based on illusions". And now I try to understand everything better:

a) If angels do not exist, maybe communicating with them still make some people happy. But I am not able to talk about angels, I let people more specialized on the question to do so.

b) If angels exist, I do not know what to say. But I am not able to talk about angels, I let people more specialized etc. (on the question to do so).

c) If we had not had illusions (or kept them at one time of our life), we would not have real feelings (I think this is what my grandmother had in mind and may I dare to say it was a feminine point of view)

d) I have heard than a lot of men with great passions, for example who conquer the world have basic thoughs (for example if you show them a bike and these idiots of great men believe they think they can beat the hour record and would try to do it if they had not something else to do). But I do not think this has anything to do with any religious mind.

e) So as deeply hidden illusions in us (or maybe beautiful truths) make us go forward while we are not often conscious of them, what may be annoying is to express these illusions, but how these people could get together first and make other interested people join them? So I suppose that may be believe (right or wrong who can show it?) in many other things, and maybe not particularly in the angels; this may be just a code between them to reach something far deeper: should we try to investigate more about this? In fact I do not care so much but I feel clever saying this lol.

In fact I try to know how far my grandmother would have been thinking this way. Maybe she is now an angel and can tell us.

Excuse me I cannot help from being vain (maybe sometimes in a false way I do not know).

f) A lot of people say illusions and errors are the causes of misfortune. So one cannot blame anybody to stay close to the truth (though I do not know what it is), it is difficult, and people doing so deserve a lot of consideration. Lol I say this, but I would not be happy if you showed me all my faults.

g) It is important to find subjects to talk about, look all we can say about angels. I think you could keep discussing in a better way, and I hope you will contradict me about angels. It is incredible all it seems I have discovered with these angels, and all the questions which raise in my mind, it looks I am really going to become clever!

h) I have noticed that a sexy woman was singing a favourite song of my grandmother last Christmas ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi7u6NudbZ8 ! I think she is the one can be said to be an angel !

i) I finally think than believing in angels is different from the faith, but now I am fed up to talk about this to be honest (in addition to it I think I do not understand anything anymore).

@jeremiade: which job? the job of communication with angels. you can either meditate and be holy to see angels, or you just spray some lynx and they pop up right next to you. the lynx offer sounds faster, and the angels there are better looking. 

Just Like you have your right to spend your money on a drink .That person who posted her event has a right to post the event and people who are interested have a right to blv in angels or not.....

The way I see it there are two questions here, and we need to separate the two.

The first question is whether talking to angels makes sense. I'll paraphrase James Randi here: It's easy to talk to angels; the hard part is getting them to talk back. But since we seem to be using the word 'angels' and not 'ghosts' or 'dead people', there's a religious theme. We have a wide variety of backgrounds, and there's no way we're going to agree on the existence of angels, or god, and which one.So let's just drop the question and move on.

The second question is much more interesting: should we be bothered by someone posting events where they  'talk to angels'? The way I see it, if these events draw enough visitors that means there's an interest in the community. Again, this community has a huge range of backgrounds and beliefs, and I don't feel the need to suppress any of those unless they are harmful. These events only affect the people who join, so I don't see a reason stop them from being posted.

Thank you for your post Edward, you exactly said what I finally understood in a very clear and concise way and even more. But I think you forgot an important point. This is the question of respect of beliefs, which motivated my crazy public live reflexion. I don't know why the belief in money or in the superiority of the unique reason should me more respected than other beliefs and yet this what I felt here, but maybe my feeling is wrong and not accurate, do not hesitate to tell me if you disagree.

@charlie: my reaction too when i read jeremy's post. he somehow linked the job lynx does to people who are on the job market, because the word "job" appears in both. the lord (and his angels) work in mysterious ways.

I didn't quite understand your point so I'm not sure whether I agree or disagree. You start talking about other types of belief (e.g. money), but that's off-topic and only dilutes our discussion.

Let me say this.

I don't think it's necessary to always respect someone else's beliefs. To give a crude example, Hitler had certain beliefs that were unacceptable. That's why I used the word 'harmful' in my earlier post; if someone's belief is potentially harmful you should not respect it.

My beliefs are pretty well summarized by the James Randi video. But I don't think that the Glocals forum is necessarily the right Arena to fight for them.

why don't u go out and buy a drink yourself instead of spending time on glocals talking about other people business? :-)

@edward: i love your posts. it's true some people are under an impression that these forums are a critical tool for fighting for their beliefs to the last drop of blood. but these forums are such a bad tool for that kind of deep discussion. 

@jeremi: sod is grass (definition:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sod). when charlies said "sod the seminars" he meant to say that some grass needs to be added to the seminars. that way the seminar will be greener and softer, and will attract butterflies. the butterflies will attract birds. the birds will seed flowers. and then the seminars will be nice and flowery.

You started about talking about Hitler's beliefs, this never came to my mind, whereas money was mentioned (if you read again from the beginning of the topic the word "money" could be felt as an alternative to the belief in something which is not certain, but what about those who cannot afford a beer?). But let me tell you, that personal sacred beliefs must be respected and not laughed at whether you like it or not (though of course some people do anything and justify their acts with lies and wrong interpreations of sacred things, which is another point). And I just felt that there was a miss of respect(I was just mentioning this miss of respect and I am not fighting for any beliefs, too lazy for this and my shoulders are not large enough for this) I was asking you what you were thinking about it, because for me this was the main point and I may be wrong, but this is not a big deal.

Is this what you're asking my opinion about? 'Sacred beliefs' is too vague for me to say anything useful. I try to judge people based on their values and actions, whether they are based on a religious belief or not.

If I didn't know you Charlie I would be thinking that you need a good stiff drink !

About the judgement of people, for me this is independent from the respect of beliefs.

well i have stated  that they have the right to do it!!! you can re-read that !  that was just helpful advice in case they dont find their beautiful angels whispering in their ear! I am abit worried as well now, cause their angels may get angry and send someone after me! I mainly apologize for nearly blaming you without understanding clearly. I cannot explain what I had understood...

I am sorry but I am not really French, and like many new sons of immigrants there, I hate France. Saying you are French is just a way to have more credit, like saying you are Irish. 

Jerem...trust me... you get NO credit anywhere (except a few pubs/bars) for saying youre Irish...

What you DO get however..is "pride" (for yourself) in telling others where you are from... its an internal feeling that burns through the heart and swells your chest when you say it...and you will care not one bit what the other person thinks of your home country, because it wont affect your feelings for it.

Never be ashamed of where you are from... EVER..,.

Embrace the land you are in... it may offer you opportunity...if not,,,change the opportunity or change the land... if you find that youre sitting in mud, its your choice to move or not, dont blame others...

At least if you are Irish you will get a bit of credit with me.

But I am not ashamed to be from France, as I am not and as we just came there to f... it and benefit from the education, the helps, the hospitals, the libraries you have to pay in other places lol and go away when no longer possible.

Of course I am proud of my roots in spite of people's prejudice and I tell them  to go to f... if they dont like (at least in my head).

I had the chance to meet the organizer of the event we are discussing… and as far as I can tell she is an angel. I was sober and didn’t smoke any grass or sod ;-) I could talk to her and she would talk to me, so the communication was rather effective.

I also had the chance to meet the initiator of this discussion, and as far as I can tell she is also an angel; may be more of the hell’s type; not sure as I’m not a specialist…

Now that I think of it, I only met angels in this community... except Scots of course. They can’t have wings as they already have a skirt and nice socks ;-)

To avoid misunderstanding...I was addressing to people who criticize the organizer of these meetings and people who attend...I attended many times and are very pleasant, friendly and free...just another way to share experiences without pretensions to be able to see and do something. I can't stand people who judge without knowing...in my opinion this is a pre-requisite to open a discussion like this otherwise is just backbiting, gossip...
