Ok to follow up on the riddle regarding the gold coins, one of the guys in the factory has now been fired. He has an appointment for a job interview which he knows start in exactly 45 minutes.
He has 2 pieces of rope which each burn in exactly 1 hour. However, there is no correlation between the lengths of the rope and the time it takes them to burn. And there is no correlation between the ways each rope burns. This means that 9/10 of the rope could burn in 5 seconds and the remaining 1/10 could take 59minutes and 55 seconds. Obviously again, the other rope will not burn in the same way.
Given that we like to complicate things and other ways of telling time do not exist for this person, how does he tell when 45 minutes have gone by using the 2 peices of ropes and a lighter?

I think he should make a sundial.
Not personally knowing how to make a sundial, least of all out of 2 pieces of rope and a lighter, its a bit difficult to be more precise than that ;-)
And don't ask me how much direct sunlight there there is in coin factory either.
