Any Cricket followers out there??

Hey guys, How about discussing the latest Cricket event T-20? Did anyone watch the Super Over? Will it be the strong S.Africa, mighty W.Indies, Indian spins or Pakistani boom-boom who shall win.. Lets debate, maybe meet to watch some matches together...

Why not play. There has been a cricket club in existence in Geneva since around 1860!

http://www.gicc.ch/

There is a CERN club and others

Just google Geneva cricket club

A useless fact: I think the first match was played in 1857. The venue was Plainpalais.  Interesting that a cricket club was formed some 8 years before the Swiss Alpine Club was formed

CRAZY GAME....Gul of all people got Pakistan home...that guy normally cannot hold a bat....he hit the pace bowlers CLEAN...puts idiots like Afridi to shame...who bats without a brain...very rarely pays off...

I don't actually enjoy 20-20...much prefer the 50 over game and test cricket...only watched 20-20 for World Cups...not IPL matches or anything....but today's game and yesterday with Sri vs NZ were good matches...

Eventually 20 20 format will over take the 50 over game, makes more economic sense... Still test cricket is best format...

I would like to join a team. But is the season is over ? I used to play here www.oportocricketclub.com/ for recreational practice and low-level practice games. Do you have anything like this? What is the standard or does it vary? The Cricket on ice sounds amazing!

Thanks

Chris

is the meeting spot. So will it be Pakistani Gul, or Indian Singhs who make the difference this sunday? Curious newcomers to cricket are invited too.

Never said Gul was a muck...but let's face it...he ain't gonna win many games for Pakistan with the bat...best innnings I have seen him play and that too under pressure...what a crazy game...when I saw Pakistan 7 down...I never thought they would win...just wanted to see if Akmal would smack a few boundaries but much to my suprise and probably everyone else who watches cricket...Gul lead Pakistan to victory...

Many people have said 20-20 format will replace the 50 over game...but in all honesty I doubt that will even happen...money aside...too many cricket lovers enjoy the 50 over format...20-20 is where the money is I agree....many people turn up to watch games with their kids and it has increased the popularity of cricket especially amongst those who would never watch a 5 day test or even a one day international...

Ha....I love watching ODIs but I must say that when test matches go down to the wire...it's the most exciting aspect of cricket one could watch...I recall India needing 17 runs with 3 wickets in hand with Tendulkar at he crease on 140ish back in 1999...only for the wizardry of Saqlain to claim the last 3 wickets and bowl India out....

Yes, I'm pretty sure the cricket season is over...doubt this is of much use as you live in Geneva but I know Winterthur has a team...so hopefully you'll find something in Geneva...you might also be able to train indoors too during the winter...I've not seen the standard of cricket teams play here...might be OK I guess...

Thanks Amit, Chris, Tariq for sharing your ideas. Should say that cricket is not only a rich game but rich Historicaly speaking. We could spend hours & hours discussing. I think I'm more a watcher than a player.

In the case of Gul, I remember (not sure when) a year or 2 ago he had done the same. This again emphasizes the fact: T20, ODI or Test, batsmen & bowlers adapt differently to each situation.

Ha...agreed...will be tough for Pakistan to beat Sri Lanka and that too on home soil...but who knows...never expected them to thrash Australia on Tuesday which essentially knocked India out the competition due to them needing to win by a margin of 31 or so runs having batted first against South Africa which was always going to be tough...

Enjoy...

Hi Chris,

If you are interested in playning thre is a cricket club in Cossonay, jsut 15 mins north of Lausanne. Eastablish in 1989, it is part of the Swiss Cricket Association and plays in the SCA league, Pickwick cup and T20 tournaments.

In the off season there is indoor training at the purpose built facilities in Cossonay. Check out www.cossonay-cricket.com, or www.swisscricket.ch for more info.

Cheers,

Dave

Shame again to Afridi..0-1b, I think the whole scenario of the game changed, by him falling out. Sri Lanka could win by just scoring 139.

I think they deserve to keep the cup home..
