Any white water kayakers out there?

Moved here from Canada a couple months ago, and now that it's starting to feel like spring I'm looking for people to go white water kayaking with. Lots of great rivers within a couple hours of Geneva.

I'm an intermediate/advanced paddler, but I don't mind beginners.

Anybody interested?

Hi Garth,

I used to kayak often when I was in the UK (rivers grade 3 are my limit). I recently moved to Zurich and after asking around just to find out that noone kayaks, a friend recommended to join a local club as clubs often organise ww trips...that may work for you too.

Best,

Polina

Hi,

This group recently started near Basel: http://www.meetup.com/Regio-Paddler/

I haven't been to an event yet, but it may be a way to meet people more local to you?

Hi Garth, welcome to Geneva. I'm a white water kayaker, although I don't get out as much as I'd like, and I'm always keen to meet new people to paddle with. Send me your email address and we can try to set something up. Although maybe not quite yet - being Canadian you might consider this paddling weather but I generally don't get the boat out until late April.

There are three clubs locally. I joined the CERN club (you don't have to work at CERN to be a member), it's a good international crowd but you might find there are not many outings for advanced paddlers. http://club-canoe-kayak.web.cern.ch/club-canoe-kayak/Home.html

Then there is the Geneva club, they have a base at Jonction and apparently organise a lot of trips: http://www.canoe-club-geneve.ch/

And finally the Annemasse club, they are based at the slalom site in Etrembieres. They are quite slalom / competition oriented but I they also do some river-running and I think they have some pretty good paddlers. http://club-canoe-kayak.web.cern.ch/club-canoe-kayak/Home.html Their website also has descriptions of some of the local rivers.

Finally I recommend the excellent website at http://www.eauxvives.org/fr/ where you can find river guides and live water level info.

Hi Guys,

I enjoy paddling on rivers up to 3-3.5,  struggling if it goes above that level.

I live in Biel/ Bienne, I have access to a club equipment which could be rented for a few CHF, although this is not a brand new, top class equipment, but could work for a while if there is anything needed.   I have a car with a roof rack so transportation of equipment for small team is not a problem.

Anyways looking forward to teaming up with some people.

Please drop me an email at [email protected]

Hi everyone,

I'm based in the Bernese Oberland and have just set up my own kayaking school here in Interlaken, always cool to meet other paddlers though, so if you're ever in the area and up for a paddle let me know, I'm regularly on the Luetschine and Simme,

Cheers,

Dave,

Great timing. A buddy and i are planning to be in the area next week (most likely Sunday evening to thursday) for some kayaking, hiking and mountain biking. I was actually just contemplating trying to find a local guide as a I don't know the rivers very well and haven't paddled much this season (been nursing a stubborn injury).

If your school does this kind of thing or if you just want to hang out, drop me an email - [email protected].
