Are you Superstitious ?

I read recently that more women die in road accidents on Friday the 13th than any other day. Not because of the day but because of FEAR of the day. There is nothing different about the Friday the 13th apart from the superstition that it is not a good day.

It made me wonder what superstitions you follow, or worry about .

I was born 56 years ago today, and i remember my mother had a biscuit tin with the follwoing words on it

Mondays child is fair of face

Tuesdays child is full of Grace

Wednesdays child is full of Woe

Thursdays child has far to go

Fridays child is Loving and Giving

Saturdays child works hard for a living

The child that is born on the Sabbath day, is bonny and blyth and good and Gay.

I always thought that i was born on a Wednesday, and spent many years worrying about all the Woe that would come into my life.Especially when i saw that biscuit tin.  It made me quite sad that i was destined for a life full of Woe. Until I found out many years later that I was born on a Thursday.

At this point my life changed around, and i saw myself going very far. I did, I travelled the world and had many many fantastic adventures.

Funny how the small things in life affect us, without realising it.

So what superstitions do you follow ? and why ?

Enjoy your day :)

Re: Are you Superstitious ?
Post 1

I am not particularly superstitious although there is this ONE thing I will always remember since I was a kid-my mum never liked the baguette or bread lying on the table the other way round as she was always saying it was bad luck, since I never like it that way either, it makes me feel unconfortable.

As to Friday the 13th-I have no fear at all, neither walking under a ladder or seeing a black cat, etc.

Talking about days we were born, in Thailand, they say that if you are born on a Wednesday, you were born under the Giving Buddha (probably generous in helping others), if you were born on a Thursday, then you were born under the Meditation Buddha, meaning you have to meditate a lot to try and empty your brain of unwanted thoughts and stop worrying all the time and allow stress invade you.  I don't know about the other days.

If I am going to sleep/stay in a new place (i.e. hotel, a new house or elsewhere), I would pray and ask for permission to stay there.

1stly... Happy Birthday Karl

Secondly, I nod to / salute magpies, like to have a upturned horseshoe at home, and do make wishes on shooting stars... but since Im not a multi billionaire yet with nubile young wenches serving my every wish, yet, Im guessing these superstitions and their subsequent wishes are not true.

Many cultures think that Friday the 13th is a lucky day... for me they tend p to pass as any other. I wont walk under a ladder, not because its unlucky, but simply because I dont want water or paint or a hammer to drop down on me... its common sense.

Reality is... you make your own luck in life, and also make your own misfortune.

Having misfortune from time to time is a good thing, it makes one appreciate the fortunate times better.
