Does anyone here live in the St Jean area in Geneva? And what do you think of it? I am moving there soon so I would like to know what it is like to live there. I have already been there but it things are different when you are just a visitor I guess.

I work in the area and know a few natives who live there since several years (one in 50 yo and has been living there since his childhood).
It's a nice neighborhood (if I believe what they say when we speak of that area) and it's also an area I'd like to live in.
Now, it depends where exactly you're going to move.... things can be different from a street to another...

Thank you for the reply. Last time I went it looked nice but the main reason I am asking is because I'd like to know if it is safe enough. I know its not far from Cornavin which has some problems, at least thats what I have heard from people already living in Geneva.

The Area was great till I moved there, then it all went downhill :P
Seriously though, nice area, like it a lot and far enough from Cornavin to not be affected by the trouble there. Although you may here me walking the streets early in the morning shouting for Whiskey! (he's my dog and that's the story I'm sticking to)

Hi Sofia
I live in St Jean and i never felt unsafe. There are some dark secluded areas i wouldnt go by myself at night (no problem during the day) but otherwise is a very nice area. If you pm me your address i can have a look and tell you more details.

I would agree about Paris. Half of my family is from there; even so I was not too keen on living there as the good parts of it are far too expensive to live in and many cheaper areas are just a no go area. So I thought that if I wouldnt be able to walk by myself at night or even during the day sometimes it would end up being a nightmare. I have heard of regular break ins in Geneva; in fact someone I know of had her flat burgled twice. But that could happen just anywhere to be honest so I am not that worried.

And by the way the place in London in which I have studied is also a no go area so I am thinking that anywhere else would be a lot better than that

Hi Sofia,
My wife and I have lived in St Jean for nearly 4 years and we find it a really peaceful, family-orientated neighbourhood. There are always kids playing in teh streets which is quite rare these days. Quiter than other parts of town of an evening but there are a handful of really excellent places to eat.
Some nice easily accessible trails take you down to the River Rhone too, which is great on a sunny evening too.
If you need any tips in the neighbourhood then let me know. Guess we might soon be neighbours.
Alan

I've been living in the area for about 20 years, and actually one of the only thing that annoy me about having to find a bigger flat is that I probably will have to go live in another place (except if we get super lucky while searching).
It's by far not the most lively neighboorhood, but it's really convinient to live there. Everything (airport, Rive, Plainpalais, Railway station,...) is like 15 minutes away maximum, there are 3 busses coming there you got some decent places to eat (Giardino Romana, l'Improviste, les Tilleuls, Na Village and Mr Wang by exemple), some small shops for most of the things you need on a daily basis. Security is not a problem (well, at least not more than in other parts, better than most).
