Art jewellery studios?

Hi everybody,

Does anyone know of any open art studios in Geneva ? I am looking to use some equipment that I don't currently have in my own studio and would be willing to trade working hours in the workshop or pay to use it until I get my own. Mainly looking for a metal rolling mill and casting equipment. Also if there are any other jewellery makers out there, or wanna bees, or people who know anyone that has a jewellery store please let me know.

Thanks,

Hells Bells

Hi,

Unfortunately, I cannot help you but I have a question for you!  I have been wanting to make jewelry (most bead based) for a long time.  Do you know of any classes (in English) in Geneva?

Hi Kat,

I am currently setting up my workshop at home in a spare bedroom until a proper studio space becomes available and I intend to teach classes after that. I already teach children jewellery making at birthday parties which is fun but pretty basic. As soon as I get set up I will be happy to help but other than that I have not heard of any classes in English. You can buy supplies at the flea market in Plain Palais but they are over priced, I'll send you a link to some US suppliers, you can start there and ask me questions as they arise if you want.

Hope this that helps,

Helene

Hi,

Excellent!  Let me know when your home workshop is ready to go.  I would love to take a class!  It is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time.

Hi-

I vaguely remember a studio around the banks area, but seemed professional and I've trying to look up how or if it is possible to use it.

Another place worth giving a try is a small jeweller in Luty, just along the lake outside of Lausanne. She has her workshop just by the little marina (and the creperie) and it might be worth it to ask her

Otherwise, I'm looking around for classes / tools myself.. i currently live in Brisbane Australia and am coming back to Switz at the end of March. I've been taking different metal smithing courses and really hope to continue in Switz.

will send you links if i hear of anything.

Cheers

Hi Robi and Mel,

Thanks for the info and suggestions. Mel - when you get here we should meet for coffee and see what we can work out, equipment is very expensive here, perhaps you can use some of mine, we could look into starting our own studio if you will be near the Geneva region so let me know. Looking forward meeting you.

Hey thanks for your answers, Robi and Helene! Really encouraging.

With the move and all that, Robi, I doubt I'be holding an exhibit very soon though. will let you know for sure when i get to it.

I do remain really keen on continuing with jewellery, Helene, so I'll be happy to contact you, say, in April? I may be staying closer to Lausanne, but Geneva area is definitely a possibility.

I might also contact the woman behind Crea-tiff just to know how she goes about things.

What else... oh yeah- have a look at www.charlottefontaine.ch. I don't know her at all but her work is fresh/modern and her studio is in an ex-factory in Geneva, along with other artisans.

Would really enjoy meeting up too. Cheers,

Mel

Hello Hells Bells,

Please also let me know when you are ready to give classes. I had followed classes for two years before I moved here and want to continue very badly. I enrolled in the classes of createlier here and they were good but unfortuantely all in French so did not work out for me.

So let me know!

Come ot my event on 13 October at 99 rue du Lyon.  Great jewelry will be on sale.  Jo

Dear Friend of the Ethiopian Children's Appeal,

Kindly see the new flyer which provides a detailed enumeration of the events we are organizing for the day and their times. I hope you will try to come during the day and also if possible in the evening where we will have a band, Ethiopian dancers and musical performances.

I am looking forward to showing you the collection that I have designed entitled Schoolery: Jewels for Schools. There will be lots of other artists and designers exhibiting their products as well.

Kindly spread the word far and wide to your networks and friends. Also, feel free to come by and volunteer your time.

What ECA has accomplished: Every year deliveries of school supplies, books, and ten tons per year of foodstuff grown locally in Ethiopia as well as clothes and sports equipment for rural school children. Built six classrooms and two libraries. Installed solar power in the school. Built two teachers' quarters. Installed vegetable gardens at the school and taught the children how to grow their own vegetables. Refurbished the local health clinic and installed solar power and a fridge for vaccinations. Helped to support 16 HIV/AIDS orphans living in a home environment in Addis Ababa .

Support homeless women with children in Addis and provide them with vocations.

New projects: Providing scholarships to students graduating from rural schools for vocational training and tertiary studies.

I apologize in advance if you receive this message multiple times. I am trying to consolidate the mailing list but have not reached perfection as of yet!

Thanks for your support. Kind regards, Jo Butler

Thanks for your replies and for your interest in learning more about jewellery making. It has taken a while but I finally have a jewellery studio! I would like to start running classes once a month or when there is enough interest for a group class – maximum 5 participants at one time please.

It is located in Ferney Voltaire so it is accessible via the F bus but there is also parking if you have a car and want to drive. If anyone is still interested let me now and we can arrange a date.

Hi Helene,

Thanks a lot for the recent posts on this thread. Congratulations with your studio in Ferney!

I am very interested in following a course at your studio. In English of course! Once a month should not be too onerous for a hike up the Jura. Are you thinking of weekdays or weekends? I would prefer weekends or evenings during the week, if possible.

Please contact me when you know more about when, where, how much for the course. [email protected].

Best,

Ela.

I buy my tools online and have them shipped in. Most of the time even with import duties it's cheaper than buying here.
