Dear All,
This is a serious message primarily directed at the female members of the GOL community just to take care. A friend of mine was attacked the night before last as she was entering her apartment building. It seems she was preoccupied with the code and didn't see the guy advancing. We don't know if he was a random person coming in off the road, lurking by the building or had followed her. Fortunately she managed to fight him off and he ran away. She was very lucky to escape with only a few bruises and being scared but it could just as easily have been worse. Without wishing to be sensationalist, the danger in Geneva is that it feels super safe (unlike say Paris, Marseilles, London or Birmingham) so you lower your guard and become less vigilant. I just wish to remind people that just like anywhere there are bad people here too despite Genevas peaceful appearance so the same basic awareness that you need in any city should be applied here.
The incident happened in Servette around midnight. On top of asking people to be careful I'd also ask if anyone else has experienced something and the incident is not isolated to please go to the police and file a report. That way there's a chance this person may be caught and punished.

I got mugged over the summer near the paquis by 7 blokes who took my wallet. when i went to report this to the police, the only thing they asked me was what i had in my wallet, and how much it was worth. not a single question about how many, who they were, what they looked like. Nothing! Seems they couldn't care less about catching them, but just wanted to get the paperwork sorted for insurance companies i'm guessing.

A friend of mine had his computer stolen in Les Brasseurs, other had a car stolen next to balexert, people stole 3 bikes inside my building this summer, walets and a computer were stolen in my office (!?!?!?) heard that girls gets followed by strange guys and appartments gets sacked in Nyon.
GVA is not a happyland. Things happens here like anywhere else! Pay attention to your belongings and dont give any chance to muggers!
