Attention Apple Macintosh Users: Apple Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Released Today!

Mac OS X is the operating system that runs on the Apple Mac hardware. The current version is 10.6, code named Snow Leopard.

Today, the new version, 10.7 "Lion", is being released.

Previously, the way to get the upgrade was to go to the store or order it online. You get a DVD, insert it into your computer, click a few times and then, voilà!

That's all changed. You can *only* buy it online via the Mac App Store that's found in Snow Leopard. This means, if you haven't upgraded to Snow Leopard already, you must do so before you can upgrade to Lion.

Also, if you have bought a Mac in the last 30-90 days, find your receipt and contact the Apple Store - you *should* be eligible for a free upgrade to Lion.

FYI, the price of Lion is about $30, just as Snow Leopard was $30.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about this upgrade, or indeed anything computer related, let me know. Just send me a PM.

(can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!)

One more thing, the Mac OS X operating system supports about 30+ languages, so even if you buy it 'here', your current language settings will be preserved. But, if you want to run the system in Tagalog or Russian or Hindi or whatever, no problemo!

Did I mention it's only $30?!??!?!?

Here's a list of a smattering of new Mac OS X Lion features.

One that has me particularly interested is the improved Voice control. And Air Drop. And updated Finder (merge Folders!!!!!!). And updated iCal.

I need to learn to express my emotions.....

you don't have to go to an Apple Store, it won't be there ... go in the AppStore situated in your Dock !

If you are going to upgrade check software update first. See below

This update addresses an issue with the Migration Assistant application in Mac OS X Snow Leopard that prevents transfer of your personal data, settings, and compatible applications from a Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard to a new Mac running Mac OS X Lion.

I saw the Canon EOS utility doesnt work (presumably photos will still import via iphoto/Aperture?), plus the itunes sound enhancement plugin SRS iWOW.  Other than that seems good to go.  I will hold off for a few days tho!

@hayley yes, it's 30 CHF, but you should get a free voucher or something since you bought it within 30 days of the release of Lion.

Call me and we can talk about it.
