There has to be more of us... needing a place to vent it out about our family, kids, house, pet, room.... who's up for sharing amusing stories so we know we're not the only one and to make the day go that little bit faster?!
Yes this is the result of a rubbish day at work! A 6 year old going on 14 and an overtired 2 yr old screaming the place down! Get me outa here!!!!

lol
I take care of a 6yr old and a 9 month old and understand how you feel when you have a bad or good day!
We are going to be spending a lot of time at the parks and beach over the next few weeks, so if you are interested in meeting up for playdates, send me an email and I'll send you my info=)

...and we got many emails from au-pairs about orhanising an au-pair get-together. We're now working on it, and it will happen in the next few weeks.
Until then, pls feel free to post any au-pair get-togethers on the Members Activities section. I am sure there will be many takers for it.

It's the toughest job in the whole world, to look after a child. Looking after someone else's with the parents over your shoulder....
I know you signed up for it, but you're also sticking it out and making the best of it.
Hats off to the au pairs!
Respectfully,
Fraulein Maria

In fact, it's a huge responsability to look after children. A mother automatically feels responsible for the kids with her instinct and her blood. As an au pair, you really have to be in the chemistry of the family and get along with the character of a kid.
I believe it's too young when your 18 to look full time after children and cook.
I would like to have an au pair, but most probably for only 4 hours a day. And also I think the live-in situation is not easy. The au pair needs to breethe too (as well as the family needs intimacy).
So rather maybe two families who share one person, but offer her a studio for example, so she can also have private live with her mates, her books, her music etc...

the thing i found so hard about this year was living and working in the same place. i spent a lot of time just trying to get out of the house. there are also so many things that you have to do that you did not sign up for (like cooking for the family and cleaning up after them) the biggest problem is when you end up looking after people you didn't sign up to look after... eg the dad!! the biggest kid!! i am sad to be leaving geneva and all my friends here and the area and of course sad to be leaving my family - we've had some great moments together even if living with another family is VERY weird! me and the 2 year old (who i spend most of my time with) have become so close... i am the only one who can understand him when he speaks!! but looking after someone elses kids full time is VERY tiring and im definitely ready for the end. and can safely say after this experience i will never get an au pair of my own when i have kids (which is certainly not going to be for a VERY long time now!!)

It's a tough situation because the au pair has no one to complain to if things go wrong. She or he is obviously far from home and if they family does not make them feel welcome and yet expects them to be the perfect "Auntie" for their children...
I know there are lots of good families out there but I also feel that it's easy to add and add to the list of tasks for the au pair.
I don't know how y'all do it. But hats off to you!

because neither family feels like they are getting as much as the other from the au pair.
It's basically having 2 bosses (how fun can that be?).
But the studio idea sounds crucial. Notice how Joelle jumped at the idea. I had au pairs (3 of them, only from when my children were fully-scolarized) and things went very well. But they all expressed that it's better having your own studio if possible. This said, they did quite some entertaining in my appartment, which I felt was important for their sanity. Sometimes, I felt it was more their appartment than mine, but I didn't care.
Once I came home from a trip and the au pair (from Cornwall) had repainted the living-room. What a surprise! She was that comfortable with us that she just painted the livingroom. We liked it.
Anyhow, other humans are life's greatest experience.

I've got a 7-year-old, a 6-year-old, and a 2-year-old. I'm def up for playdates or meeting at the park. It's the only way to pass these summer days. It's the worse time of year for an au pair. There's no break. No stop. And what's with this rain?!?! My kids aren't too crazy, but if you keep them inside for too long, they start climbing up the walls.
