Bank for savings?

Hello there,

I need to open a savings account - the money has to be available all time and it would not be bad if I could even get an attractive interest rate. I do not want to pay a fee to have the account. Oh and I dont care about the moral of the bank - as long as the above conditions apply to my account ;-)

Any input is highly appreciated!

Swiss Francs, Pouds, Euros, Dollars.....?  For Swissies try the post bank e-deposit account (it has some strange name) and you should get 1.5%.  For pounds try Sainsbury's if you have a  UK address if not Alliance and Leicester in the Isle of Man, for dollars I don't know, for Euros try a Livret A in any French bank.  If you need a French address but don't have one try Anglo Irish in the IOM/Channel Islands, but check it out first for solidity (is that a word?)

Be careful of the swiss banks - some have a very low limit for withdrawals without notice, e.g. 10,000 with the Caisse D'Epargne in Vevey, 50,000 seems to be the norm, so if you have more you might want to split into more than one bank.

Oh, avoid UBS, since it has dreadful customer service IMHO.

If anybody else know better rates for Euros and CHF do please tell us!

Oh it is for CHF - maybe I should have posted that :-)

It is funny, I have UBS and have only experienced great service...

Their savings account is free however the interest rate is only 0,5% - if you withdraw more than 50.000 CHF you need to advise them 3 months in advance - fine by me as I am putting my money INTO the saving not withdrawing them haha - would however like to find a bank with a higher interest rate....

I have heard UBS even charges for putting money into the normal salary account! Have heard lots of good things about BCGE, so I went for them. There are also other threads here on Swiss banks, so you should look them up.

Hi

look at Credit Agricole Financement.

They want to develop the retail banking so right now they propose the best interest rates for saving account ( don t expect something fantastic but always better than 0.5 or 0.75 from UBS or BCGE)

you know : high interest plus available all time plus no fee is an impossible mix...

Cheers
