Banking/credit question

Hi guys,

Having some trouble with out banking at the moment, my fiancé works with CERN and gets paid to UBS bank in chf. However, we live and spend most of our money in france. We need a bank, or at least a pre paid credit card using euros but as we don't speak French very well, we do not understand the banking websites,

Does anybody know the best way around this ?

Make an appointment with your bank explaining you need to speak with an english speaking manager and discuss

Alternatively but do not know if feasible get CERN to pay you in ths currency you want, speak to HR?

Bank websites do not necessarily fgive you the best info.  Face to face much more productive

Crédit Agricole Financements, swiss based bank with a large network bank in France.

They offers many good services for people who deal with the two sides of the border.

UBS offers EUR accounts which can be added to your existing bundle of banking products.  I don't know what the conversion rate would be, but if he is to be paid only in Siwterland and only in CHF, it might be the easiest option.

Credit Agricole in Thoiry, Most of guys there speak english. Easy to get an account and the all important Carte Bleue for surviving in France. We then have a mandated transfer from our UBS account to the French account.

When I was at CERN, there was a French Bank on their premises in Prevessin, but that's so long ago that it's probably changed.

If you live in France, I suggest getting a French bank acount. It's necesary for all payments (electricty, water, etc). In some cases, it's also good to have a French check-book. (Yes, they still use them!)

I use CIC in Frerney, they have a system of shadow accounts in CH, so I transfer money to them free of charge via their Swiss shadow accounts, and then it gets converted to EUR.
