A quick question - what is the deal with BBQ gas bottles here....do you need to buy one and then do the swap thing or get it refilled each time. I see Migros bricolage has bottles. Any ideas gratefully received.

yep... garages do it too such as Shell.
Thanks Charlie - I take it from that you have to buy the initial one and then swap ??

yep.... they call it a "deposit"...so if you give the bottle back, you get cash back.

I would add that you need to keep the receipt (at least with Migros Brico) to get you money back (if for example you leave CH or want to use another supplier). Put it in with the papers of the car, that way you don't lose it.
I would suggest you get the smaller one (5KG gas) since it already weighs about 12KG in total.
The bottles are not generally exchangable between stores/gas stations.
Keep in mind that it is difficult/impossible to see when the bottle is almost empty. The only "guess" way to do it is to lift the bottle up from time to time and secondly to watch the stength/quality of the flame. Since I BBQ 365 days of the year, I keep a second bottle in case.

Thanks Verbier - good points to remember !!
Back again - well I have got my gas bottle no problems but problem now is that the connection does not fit my nice big Aussie BBQ !!!! (don't u get the feeling i should have known this would happen....). Does anyone out there know of a specialist BBQ shop around Geneva where I can perhaps find a new connection arrangement etc etc ? Thanks in advance.

Think many of the bricolage shops (at least on France) have this. I think the connections are the same on Swiss and French gas bottles.
