There has been a lot of debate here in Geneva about what to about the apparent increase in begging on the street. Although begging exists in most big cities, the current situation seems to have a lot of people upset.
I sometimes give money, mostly to street musicians. I do detest loud, bad music on the tram where there is little or no prospect of escape. But in general I suppose I think of begging as something that comes along with city life. I've seen a lot more extreme things in New York or Washington, D.C., not to mention other cities.
What is the situation in Zurich, Basel and Lausanne? What to people think should be done? Should people be allowed to sit with their children on the street while asking for money? I would be interested in hearing your views...

I saw a weird thing the other day around Coop. I watched a lady who didn’t appear to be vagrant, dropping off a young boy with a woman begging on the sidewalk. The boy was crying and clearly didn’t want to sit with the woman but this lady was insisting on it. You’d have thought she was dropping him off at daycare or something.
I don’t have a problem with adults trying to care for their kids but I do have a problem with kids being used to take care of the adults. Lately I’ve been seeing it a lot. These kids should be in school.
