Belgian friends: where can one find Sirop de Liège / Luikse Stroop in GVA?

Dear Belgian and Belgian-loving friends,

I am desperately looking for a pot of Sirop de Liège in or around Geneva. I need it for a recipe that just doesn't work as well with the Swiss substitutes (raisinée, vin cuit). Any idea where I could procure the precious nectar?

As a last resort I could always ask my dear old mother to mail me some from Belgium, but it seems impractical and anway it wouldn't arrive in time for my culinary purposes...

Many thanks in advance, Merci, Bedankt!

Diego

PS if you're wondering what the heck I am talking about, this is it:

Diego,

I can't come up with a specific recommendation but I would try Globus as a starting point. When it comes to specialty products, they have one of the best selections in Geneva.

Good luck.

I'm not sure, but you may want to look at the food section of Globus (in the basement). I bought a few things there in the past that I couldn't find elsewhere.

By the way - I assume that Sirop de Liege is similar to Dutch stroop, that we use mainly on pancakes. I haven't been able to find that in the area though I haven't been searching, but I've replaced it with maple syrup. It's a different taste but not less enjoyable.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I will check out Globus. If the worst comes to the worst, I have the recipe... It's very easy -- I just need about 7-8 hours to make the syrup...

Before you start the long 7-8 hours cooking preparation for the Syrup I suggest you try reaching the Belgian Consulate in Geneva and they will be happy to give you the right address at once. At least you might even get a small emergency sample from one of their employee to save/reward your culinary efforts. You said you couldn't order on time via internet at Siroperie Meurens, right?  Good luck. That  seems very Yummy for sure.

Thank you all again for the precious help. I ended up using vin cuit, which was close enough even though it only contains pear and no apples. Next time I'm in Belgium I'll be sure to stock up.

I couldn't find the sirop at the Pain Quotidien, at least not the one near place du Cirque. That was one of my first addresses to check out as I know it is a Belgian franchise.

The end result were some very convincing and satisfying Boulets de Liège. I just had to satisfy that craving yesterday :-)

I remember buying some at the one on Bd Helvetique. Why not try and ring them to ask? I did buy it quite some time ago though...

Perhaps the dutch shop might have a similar product?  Though you need to understand dutch to navigate the webpage unfortunately.

Hey,

Yes but the recipe and taste are very very different from the Liège version of boulets. And I'm partial to the Belgian stuff ;-)

Best,

Diego
