Bernese Mountain Dog Advice

Althought I am currently in the U.S. I have a four month old gorgeous little Suisse puppy as a souvenir.  I am getting VERY conflicting information here from the vet, breeders ect on when to neuter.  I thought since they are a Suisse puppy that maybe I could get some advice here.  My vet is saying 6 months to a year, breeder says 1 year.  Alot I have read said 1.5 years if I want his head and chest to fill out but then alot also says when they are neutered young it will effect his growth plates and he will grow too tall which is very bad for his joints ect..

In all, cosmetically I am not so much concerned.  He is 19 kilos now at 4 months, I want whats best for his health

Just curious if anyone has advice, here they are not super common and I think some people give me 'general' big dog advice..

He started training classes at 8 weeks and hes doing wonderful.  Very gentle, and super shy.. prefers playing with TINY dogs than big ones.  He's attached to me like velcro.

That's a big beauty! He is smallest of his litter, but we are anticipating him being a big boy.  Both his parents are Suisse and 100 and 120 lbs each.

Just want him to be able to grow the right size and yet still not have any long term health issues, they already have such a short life span as it is

Yor dog is growing fine and will love running by your side. Did you know of course that the Bernese mountain dogs can suffer from hips dysplasia ? NOW is the time you go to your vet for tracking this particular illness in your 19 kilos puppy through X RAY examination before neutering act.

Do not wait as first signs come by that age. Should there be signs she will need to have symphiodesis surgery . Should there be no sign of , symptoms can still be detected up to 2 yrs of age. This is why many vets believe better not to wait too long for Neuter and  before 6 months of age. If your dog presents a "normal" puppy behavior all is well but if not the case she will suffer . When your male dog reaches maturity, you will still be the center of attraction to your dog, in good sense and also in bad sense so be prepared and get your pet run the XRay
