Best National Anthem
Hiya folks,

JANA GANA MANA (India's national anthem) has been declared the best in the world by UNESCO.

I am proud of it, but t appears to be a hoax. Anybody can throw some light on it.

I read the article and agree totally, you can't organize such contest, not only a lose of time but in my point you can't compare patriotism and furthermore, a national anthem is a national symbol attached to the respective culture and no one would say that this or that culture (or culture's element) would be judged, officially as better than the rest.

If at the end it was to necessary compare, I would say that the Russian and the German anthems are extremely beautiful and passionate  and match my musical taste.

Cheers,

Marco

During the Olympics one of the Guardian writers listened to all the national anthems and made a top 10. After listening to them, I can only assume that he was suffering from listening to 250 of them. No offense to any Uruguyans here, but yours is definitely not the best... and it's way too long!

I used to live next to Landsdowne road in Dublin when the Irish football team was playing their World Cup qualifiers there. The loudest anthem was the French one by a mile. I think everyone in the stadium was singing at the top of their lungs... da de dum dum dum dum DAAA DE DA, DA de da DA DA DA DA!

First of all, needless discussion as there are many issues (such as lyrics and meaning) that are lost in translation...

Also, I'm hoping that The Guardian didn't make the evaluations based on just the music because most of those sound horrid played on a recorder. I love the Turkish national anthem but without the words and played on a recorder it doesn't sound at all majestic.
