Best instrumental solo ever?

I enjoyed the 'best romantic song' thread (and spent $20 on iTunes to get the songs I liked), so I thought I'd start something similar.

So: Which is your favorite instrumental solo?

I could have said 'guitar solo' but want to widen the range of music a bit (and I know some great sax/keyboard/whatever solos). Still, I'm sorry for excluding the dance / hiphop crowd.

Mine is the guitar solo of John Petrucci of Dream Theater, in the song Goodnight Kiss. It starts around 3:20. Don't switch it off after the slow section; the fast part is just as amazing.

I look forward to your posts.

For pop music, it's got to be between Amos Garrett's guitar solo on "Midnight At The Oasis" by Maria Mauldar (1970), or the Phil Woods Alto solo on "Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel (1977).

Very nice reactions so far. As long everyone keeps posting stuff like this you can have as many 'favorites' as you want.

@ Marksist: your post of organs reminded me of this: the guest-solo of Ken Hensley (Uriah Heep) in the song Loser by Ayreon. The solo starts around 2:40 but it's a fun song to listen to.

Note: Ayreon is a Dutchman who hires great singers and musicians to play on his albums. Past singers included Bruce Dickinson (former Iron Maiden), Fish (Marillion), James LaBrie (Dream Theater) and lots of others. The style is somewhere between Yes, Pink Floyd and heavier stuff, so if you like these bands check out the album The Human Equation.

Note to self: stop procrastinating, start writing that paper.

For me, this year's best solo would be Ramón López's drum solo in "Benito (In absentia)", from the album Morning Glory, by the trio Agustí Fernández/Barry Guy/Ramón López. Nobody can say more than him with so less elements. Sorry, there's no video for that (the video features another tune by the trio), but for those of you having Spotify, there you can find the CD.

Obviously, this "best solo ever" debate changes constantly, so perhaps I'll think differently in 2 days time

Admitted the original was not instrumental, but this guys skills are just amazing.

And then there are those who don´t even need an instrument. Always been a favourite of mine.
