Bicycle wheel replacement

I think my bicycle's rear wheel is damaged (it has gone out of shape) and I need to replace it. One of the spoke is also broken. Do I need to bring the entire bike or just remove the wheel and take it to the repair shop?

The wheel has 7 gears attached to the axle. Can these be transferred to the new wheel?

Thanks!

The wheel should be enough.  The shop should be able to transfer the cassette to the new wheel unless it's a very old bike (freewheel instead of freehub).  How old is the bike?

Thanks! Its quite a new bike with one touch unlocking bolt. I've bought a replacement wheel today because the original was out of shape. The repairman transferred the gear cassette to the new wheel together with the tires and I remounted it back on my bike.

For future reference.....

A wheel will go out of shape very easily with loose or broken spokes.  You probably need not have bought a new wheel, but taken it to a half decent bike shop and they would attach a new spoke and have kit to re shape the wheel by systematically tightening the spokes.

It all depends on how much the wheel/bike is worth i guess.

I have taken by wheel twice to Boss Bikes behind the station and they have added lost spokes and re tightened everything bringing it back into shape for about 40 chuffs.

I've never had a spoke-popping wheel settle down and get reliable.  When a spoke pops, another pops shortly thereafter and soon it's like popcorn in the microwave.  I chalk it up to improper wheelbuilding or crapass spoke quality.  Or both.

If the rim isn't bent, I might respoke the drive side if I can acquire the proper spokes easily.  I did this on my road bike years ago and it's been fine ever since.

Thanks guys. Indeed I asked about re-aligning the wheel and replacing the spoke but the bike repair guy said it is too out of shape to fix it properly. I don't want to pay for a repair only to discover I need to replace the wheel and make another trip to the repair shop.
