Break in/Burglery - who pays what the damaged entry door?

Hi all,

I hope someone can help. During our Chrsitmas hols we have been burgled.

Money, juwelery and a watch got stolen but the highest amount will be the door replacement. We live in an apartment building and the Regie told us that we have to pay the 3.800 CHF to have the door replaced.

We have an insurance for household - covering our belonging and would potential also pay a part for the door but our premium would go up a lot.

Now I found an article in the German Swiss part that the door and windows have nothing to do with the tentants if the tentant is not responsible for breaking them.

Does anyone have eperience with this or could give me some advice?

Thank you

Antje

Your household insurance (if you have breakin clause) must pay for the repair of the door, and your premium should not go up (you can cancel or change insurance at every "event", without waiting for the end of the contract).

Open a case with your insurance, list all things that have been stolen, with new value (even if you don't have all paper proof), and mention also that the door is broken and that you will send them the bill once you have it. Also include all other damage that needs repair (paint, "retouche", etc).

What the Regie seems to be saying, is that they will order the work and send you the bill. You then forward the bill to your insurance. But you could also tell the Regie to send the bill directly to your isurance and give them your case number.

I hope this helps. Patrick

What I forgot to add:

You could also ask the door repair man to send the bill directly to the insurance, giving him the case number.
