Buying Turkish Lira

Where can I get a good exchange rate for CHF to Turkish Lira? I'm travelling to Turkey and I'm torn on whether to wait and exchange my CHF when I get there or exchange it here before I leave.

As long as you don't exchange it at the airport where they charge a commission, it shouldn't make a huge difference.

You should get around 2.55-2.58 Turkish Lira for 1 CHF.

Unless you're looking to exchange 1'000'000 CHF, it is not a critical decision.

just avoid the exchange offices at the airport.

For the best exchange rate, withdraw money from an ATM. There are are many of them at the airport, and are easy to find. Your bank/credit card company gets the best rate.

And to add to what JR has said, always select the automatic rate given by your bank over the one suggested by the ATM.

Have a good trip!

Have always used ATMs in the cities in Turkey and quite happy with the rate. Get stung a little on the commission my card charges each time but that is because I do not like carrying around a lot of cash.

if you going off the beaten track and avoiding towns then you might have to carry cash with you but a book like Lonely planet will give up to date info on this

Check if your bank has a special relationship with a turkish bank. For example, France's BNP and the US' Bank of America have agreements with Turkey's TEB, so you get the best rate and no ATM charges when you use their machines.
