Buying a washing machine from France???Pls help

Hi everyone,

I need to buy a washer and dryer. The prices are more attractive in France. Has anyone bought theirs from there. Any pros and cons? Plugs?

Would really appreciate some input.

Thanks!

It's usually cheapest online. Have you tried www.toppreise.ch?

It's not a good idea to use adaptors for big appliances. It's asking for trouble. Our dishwasher was connected like this (unknown to me). It took us a while to find the problem and we are lucky it did not catch fire.

Changing the plug is straight forward.

Totally not true. Prices in France are up to 50% cheaper for washing machines, dishwashers, stoves and the like. See previous threads.

Importing is not an issue and really hassle free. It's more like the hassle of changing the plugs. Would a converter do?

This is a very helpful advice . I would have iimagined the converter would work fine. The only things is that if I cut the wire apparently I lose the guarantee .

Untrue, the guarantee is not on dependant on the original plug being intact.

Depending on the installaion in France, you might still have to replace the original plug.

One price diffrence is the VAT.:  20% in France. 8% in Switzerland.

My only concern would be the guarantee as far as what happens if it goes wrong? If you have to take it back, forget it, the customs hassle comes in. If the company in France will come to you, ok.

Otherwise, yes, it's simple and you'll save money.
