If buying a property in France but earning Swiss Francs, what is better to take the mortgage out in CHF or Euro?
Anyone have a direct contact in a French bank that speaks English deals with mortgages?

Hi
There are a few banks that offer special rates if you earn in Swiss Francs but are buying a property in France. Send me an email with your contacts and further details to [email protected] and we can have a chat about this.
thanks

apart from the normal variable interest rates that you get on mortgages, there would be a variable currency cross rate risk (both to your benefit and against) as the Euro fluctuates versus the CHF... currently the Swiss central bank has vowed to hold the xchange rate above 1.20....
If the euro strengthens therefore your payments will increase if you have a euro denominated mortgage and earn in CHF.
Theyre unlikely to decrease in my opinion.

I agree with Charlie but on some mortgages you can fix the currency exchange between CHF/Euro which is quite an attractive proposition at the moment.

Thanks for your replies, I am trying to digest this information ;-) I want a good deal that will give me no nasty surprises J
Charlie when you say “Theyre unlikely to decrease in my opinion” you mean the Euro exchange rate?
