C permit, on the RAV and want to travel....anyone know the rules???
Jun 7, 2009 @ 12:33
I have a C Permit and have been unemployed for over 6 months and currently get unemployment benefit from the RAV. Due to the market and being totally fed up with the situation i'd like to sign off and go travelling for 3 months. My question is can I sign back on again when I return? I've paid into the system for over 5 years and am not quite half way through the "Rahmenfrist" but am not sure of the rules. My RAV Beraterin is also not so nice to me so am reluctent to ask her because as i'm british she thinks i'm always out of the country anyway! Anyone been through a similar experience or can offer any advice. Much appreciated!

I went through a similar situation here in Geneva last year. I started receiving chomage in august last year but decided to out of country for 3 months in september. I just sent a message to my councillor that i had an emergency back home nad have to go away for 3 months and to suspend my benefits until I am out. When I returned from my trip, i just had to go back and re inscribe myself and the benefits started right away. My councilor is super nice and generally very helpful. Hope this helps.

Hi there
I'm glad that you had a positive experience! Unfortunately my counciller is not so understanding and doesn't seem to like me so much, therefore i'm a bit reluctant to ask her I think they are much more stressed at the moment with many more people signing on! I can give it a go though! Thanks for your advice!!:)

Tell her that due to the employment situation, you will be looking for a job abroad. This means that while you are away you have do the same job search as in Switzerland and keep all the documents. Under Swiss law, this is possible, but do ask her beforehand anyway.
