Cablecom Schmablecom!

Cablecom - This must be the worst company in Switzerland for service. I have now lost count of the amount of times they have diligently taken my phone number and e-mail address (even though they are both in my account details) and promised to call me back in the next hour - I am still waiting. This has been going on for 6 weeks now, during which time I have been paying for internet and telephone service that I don't have.

Moving apartments shouldn't be this difficult in a country that's reknowned for it's efficiency. Oh no, silly me, that's in the Germanic regions. It seems that in Geneva all we can expect is a 'shrug a la francais'.

Bah humbug - Christmas in cancelled!!

Tongue out

David, I hope your problem is solved.

I want to share my experience as well:

We moved to Switzerland in September. We were obliged to declare to the "commune" that we arrived. As you might now it's more than enough to receive so many letters in postbox!

In december we received a bill from Cablecom, even if we hadn't done any contract. The funny thing is we DON'T have a TV. Moreover, there is even no cable TV socket whatsoever in the apartment. I called them to explain, they told me that they would fix the error. However, I just had the same bill with overdue interest which really annoyed me.

I don't know how to fix this if they are so irresponsive. Do we have other option than making phone calls?

I finaly got connected on Monday of this week - approx 3 months after I first called them to inform them of my new address.

Needless to say they continued to send bills, which i dont have the time or energy to dispute.

I am just happy to be connected

I have to add a little positive note re: Cablecom. I switched to them a little over a year ago. First of all the quality of the internet service has been constant and good, no complaints there. I did have some administrative issues some with my configuration which is somehow complex and some with the billing.

They have been helpful is assiting me to setup the configuration and they sent additional devices at no extra cost. It wasn't easy and not everyone I spoke to was competent but they di try to help and we got there at the end.

Regarding the billing there have been some errors, I got a total of 170 Fr at some point that was not all correct, after 40 minutes on the phone the guy just erased the entire amount and said let's start from 0 :)

The service in general in Switzerland is not amazing and Cablecom is no exception, but I do feel they did more than the average in my case.

I am not sure Swisscom is all that great:compared to the US, it feels like stone-age technology and service. At least, in New York, I did not have to set up my wi-fi myself - a technician made a housecall (free of charge), checked all the connections and configured the router.

Here, I moved to my present apartment a month ago, and I am still spending hours on the phone with Swisscom technical support trying to configure their router and extender, so the two recognize each other. Everything would seem fine one day, but as soon as I connect my i-pad to the wi-fi, the delicate balance gets lost. The problem is, the two devices - while standard equipment at Swisscom - are by different makers and don't seem really compatible. And even when the signal does get through to my desktop, the speed of the Internet leaves much to be desired.
