Calling all dog lovers – important march next Tuesday in Lausanne

70,000 dog owners in the canton of Vaud should feel concerned by this!

SILENT MARCH on Tuesday 1 October 2013 at Place de la Riponne in Lausanne

Following is a prediction of what a new law in the canton of Vaud could entail from 2014 – there is very little information available about this, yet it has the potential to impact all dog owners in Vaud if the proposed laws are approved:

All dogs that weigh 25kg or more or measure 55cm from the ground to the highest point between the shoulders will need to be kept on a short lead and muzzled in all public places (on the street, in shops, at the train station, etc.), i.e. from the moment they leave the house!

You will no longer have the right to let your dogs run freely in the forest (even during the months that are usually allowed i.e. during the non-reproduction months for wildlife).
Dogs will only be allowed to run freely in the (rare) parks that have been set up to this effect.
All dogs will be considered to be potentially dangerous!

The silent marches in Lausanne at the Place de la Riponne are being organized so that dog owners can protest – given the vote taking place on this day. The marches are entirely legal and are being organized by the deputy of the Grand Conseil Vaudois, Mr Marc Oran.

The objective is to reunite as many people as possible – to focalize attention on the important roles dogs play in our lives, as a man’s best friend, through the services they render to society (i.e. avalanche and rescue dogs, etc.).

You can bring your (calm) dogs with you, and banners with slogans like “I love my dog” or any other impactful humoristic captions.  The objective, however, is not to have as many dogs as possible present, but for a peaceful protest to illustrate that such draconian measures will impact society at large, dog owners and non-dog owners alike. Those who do not have dogs are encouraged to attend as are those owners of small dogs, who may not feel so concerned given that the proposed rulings will affect larger dogs.

At the request of Mr Moran, any dogs on the march should have a wreath of flowers around their neck.

The media will be on-site. In order to have the desired impact, please join one of the two marches at Place de la Riponne in Lausanne on 1 October:

First march: 13.30-14.15

Second march: 16.30-17.30

Everyone attending a march like that and answering this thread is almost certainly a responsible dog owner, it's the few irresponsible ones that are messing up your dogs lives. What would you do about them? or would you have better rules for controlling dogs in mind?

I shall try to attend as I think it's an ill-informed and unfair proposal.

I've always found that with dogs and men it's the shorter ones you have to be careful of. Smile
