Can I get back contributions to unemployment benefits?

Hi guys, 


I worked for 2.5 years for the university as a postdoctoral worker and the contract finished in September. I applied for chomage then found out that, according to OCPM, my stay was for "study" which is not related to a diploma, I do not have a work permit and therefore can not search for a job in Switzerland, so my application for unemployment benefits was rejected. But I contributed to the unemployment benefits from my salary anyway. 


I have some questions regarding this, but I could not find any information on the internet, so please comment if you have the experience with this. 


1) Can I apply a withdrawal of my contribution to unemployment benefits?


2) Where should I apply for this?

Perhaps you could try and ask advice from SIT: The syydicat de Travailleurs.  They know all the ins and outs and laws.  Here is their site: https://sit-syndicat.ch/spip/spip.php?rubrique15.  I believe they are located in the old-town.


Or the. Federation Romands des Consommateurs (FRC:. Place Montbrillant 4 1201 Genève (Adresse postale: Place Cornavin 1 1201 Genève)   You better look up their hours - They are not there full-time.

?maybe contact  or go to L'office canton  de la population and ask them who to get in touch with about this, if they cannot help you.
