Probably a silly question and I guess it's a no.. But both my wife and I have pretty 'good numbers'.. One has 5 fives and one has 5 zeros. Would be nice to keep them.
Any way to port them into a swiss carrier? Like Orange UK > Orange CH ?

I think you can only request and see if they are available but using the swiss mobile number formats. but i also know for special numbers will cost a separate fee, like anything with several of same number is always highly sought.

I did ask Orange UK but got an answer like "Umm we're not sure, maybe, we don't think so"
One gets kind of attached to one's number after so many years :)

No chance; number portability is currently available only between telephone companies inside the same country.
The only thing you can do is to go to a Swisscom/Sunrise/Orange/whatever when you are here in Switzerland and ask them to provide you a number similar to the one you have.
but be prepared to:
1) have a different prefix, for example your current number is +44 123 4567890, in Switzerland the mobile carriers have 76 (Sunrise), 78 (Orange) and 79 Swisscom, then you can get only something like +41 76 xxxxxxx [that would be without country code 076 xxxxxxx]
2) to pay quite a bunch of money: special "nice" numbers are called something like "golden numbers", and quite often are sold with a surcharge, thne suppose your number is 123 55550000 there is a chanche for you to get for example something like 076 5550000 [10 digits total, three used for prefix, then you can choose the last seven], if it's still available AND paying.
It's now up to you !
Cheers

Good answer - Thanks!
I'm not all that protective of my numbers that I'd pay extra.. But i'll probably 'park' them here in the UK in case we return. I've had these numbers for well over ten years and got them both by chance, didn't pay extra.
I guess i'll just take whatever i get when i arrive.

@John>>> You need to go to each telecom provider shop i.e. Sunrise + Orange + Swisscom and ask them for any number combination to your previous number sequence. that is for the mobile number.
I am confident you will cross path with a comprehensive selasgirl/salesman.
In case you are shopping for a fixed phone number I believe it is only possible if you are ready to pay a hefty premium amount, at least it was the case until very recently. Good luck.
