Ok, well ive just arrived home, whilst walking up my road 2 guys hurried past whilst shouting backwards to a young lady, as I approached I could see that she was very very distraught. shaking, hyper ventilating and panicking. My French not being great and in her state, her English not so good, it turns out (from what I could understand) that she had just dropped a friend off and whilst she had pulled over in her car, these 2 gentleman had chocked a back wheel of her car whilst the other then let himself into her car grabbing what goods he could. She is on the way to meet her husband at the airport to fly. Now luckily, she had put all her documents etc into a different bag, they took her handbag, in her state of panic, she didnt remember this. I have given her tea, she has called the police and her husband knows she is safe. Just a warning to all lone drivers, lock your doors, put handbags etc under your seat or a back seat. Be careful out there......

Wow this is crazy indeed......a friend of mine from school told me something similair happened however she put her purse in the boot, got in, a man approached from the front and started banging on the hood of the car to create a distraction, meanwhile a second man came from behind, opened the boot, and took the purse. Geneva is becoming a crazy place no?

also always try to reverse your car into the parking space so when you have to leave you can do so quickly!!
final thing, the moment that you are least aware of your surroundings is when you are leaving or getting into a vehicle, your looking for your keys or trying to open the lock, many things, try to be aware of this and take care to look around whilst you are getting in and out of your car.
then of course look all doors and windows and keep your pepper spray handy
hope this helps people stay safer

That's a scary thing to happen to anyone, and the best thing to avoid situations like this is to have the knowledge of how to not get into these situations in the first place. Carrying pepper spray is great until it is turned around on you and used to immobilise you while they steal your car, gear, or worse.
My company organises seminars for those interested in learning how to prepare for the 'urban jungle' and without sounding alarmist, these people are out there and waiting to pray on the uninformed.
If you would like to know more, please contact me. All training is done by an ex British special forces trainer with over 20 years of experience in this field. There is no matcho egotistical training, just good, solid tested advice.
I would be only too happy to organise a seminar in Geneva if there is sufficient interest. I will also post on the general forum to advise others.
Stay safe for now.
Hi paquisard,
It is certainly a great idea to ride a bike, but if a lady is riding a bike to an from work, dont you think a thief who is willing have a friend help him rob/steal from someone, would not hesitate to push a lady over/off her bike and just grab her purse or napsack? Which in turn could be even more dangerous to your health? I like the comment about just be aware of your surroundings. Keep the door locked, just like I always did in California.
Be carefull with peperspray, great to defend yourself, but in the end, if police arrive and you used it, you can be in a heap of trouble yourself. Liable for the medical cost of the thief.
Just all be careful.
