Car Lovers??? TT Owners or other marques

I was curious to know if there are others who have a passionate eye and love for cars.

Please also let me know if you have a TT or any other marque.

I noticed there are no detailing products easily available unless one imports, nor anything else apart from commercialised Auto Shows once a year.

Tell me about your car, your detailing, photobucket pictures etc.

Look forward to hear more!!

Paul- the scooby sounds amazing.

I've currently got a new spec TT (8J) 2.0T, chipped. About 250bhp and a LOT of fun :D. Definitely up for a meet up to check out each others cars and drive at some pt.

Drive in the Alps can be beautiful, especially in the Spring season.

Plums! do you live on the swiss side?

I was told the car wont get through the CT if its modified over something like 10% power?

Im taking my civic type-r back to England as the throttle system is not standard and it wont get through the CT. So i will probably buy a nissan GTR as its powerful as standard.

I've had many a nice car in my time for those who appreciate them

TVR S3C

Toyota celica GT4

The engine was fully rebuilt with forged pistons, Ported ST205 Cylinder head conversion, HKS metal headgasket, with HKS cams, vernier pulleys and valve springs, ARP bolts throughout.

The turbo is a one off Garrett GT30 with internal wastegate.

MoTeC M4 Pro engine management with launch control and Anti Lag system.

TTE 950cc injectors with 255L/HR fuelpump.

Front mounted intercooler with custom mandrel bent stainless piping and ERL water Injection.

Remote oil filter conversion. Custom Carbon cold air box with Blitz SUS filter.

Racing twin plate clutch.

Custom made 3" mandrel bent exhaust from turbo, leading to Blitz rear silencer

Running 1.8 bar boost and producing around 480bhp at the crank

The brakes have been upgraded with the superb Tarox 10 pot kit,

Suspension is TRD shocks and springs, with Superflex bushes throughout.

TTE 17" alloy wheels.

Performance was pretty tidy 0-62 in the late 3s, 1/4 mile in the late 11s early 12s

Hey John nice spec on the Toyota! I had a carlos sainz GT4 back in day....

I believe the max power increase is 20%....

If you have anything other than a standard airbox it won't get through the Swiss MOT...

 Go GTR....... suits you sir!

   Paul.

I actually don't drive a TT either. Have an E60 M5 and a Subaru for the winter months.

Seems to be some serious tuning knowledge on here, feel free to add suggestions chaps!

Depends on what you call tuning.... Phoebe...

If your talking Flashing neons.... crazy colour schemes...... dustbins for exhausts then I couldn't agree with you more!

However I believe in the making your car go just that little bit better.... ride that little bit sharper.... and just basically improve your driving pleasure....

It ain't for everyone..... but then again neither is Marmite Yell

Chrispy: Thanks for the note. Sounds like an excellent idea.

Plums: Thanks for your previous PM notes to me, much obliged. Met up with Manou at Pitstop today, very insightful to tuning and how we really cannot do much that is see or without certifiable approval by La Suisse.  Nice range of cars, like what you have done.

John G: Nice past cars. There is only soo much that can be done in La Suisse that is legal. I found Millitek providing a full flow system from a single fitter so prices are 1k more than the UK. But with a Swiss cert. Everything comes with a price.

Rossdonovan: Fellow TT enthusiast. I have a 3.2 V6, be nice to compare with yours. Its the 8N model, I think. Be nice to meet you all.

Phoebe: I am a member of ClanTT but there are hardly any people on it from Geneva that I know. I would be delighted to have some meetings, moreover a delightful drive mixed with scenic areas of Switzerland.  Boys will be boys so dont mind us wanting to tune discretely.

PAST CARS

1st car Honda Integra R thereon DC2, 4dr DC2 R, DC5 R

Porsche Boxster S, 911 (996 C4)

A few dull family cars.

CURRENT

A bahaus styled "legally" tuned 270hp Audi TT, the twin piped 3.2 V6.

I import most of my detailing products and even have a Meguiars DA polisher.

Ref Meets

I would really like to plan or have the aid of Phoebe to get together with like minded Piston-Heads, Voyeurs of beauty of La Suisse, amongst others to enjoy a Swiss drive and soak up sunshine alongside mountain views.

Hi, it is nice to hear that other members of Glocals are interested in cars, driving and touring. Used to have an Audi which was great, unfortunately not a TT, but it was made mostly of aluminium so it was nice and light. Why is it that modern cars seem to be getting heavier and heavier?!? Anyway, in previous summers a few of us arranged some weekend roadtrips from Geneva to the South of France and back which were fun. Last time it was only a group of 9 people and 4 cars, (Golf GTI, Audi, Ford, BMW), but had a great weekend. Route was Geneva to Montreux, San Bernard mountain pass into Italy, to Turin, to Cuneo, then Col-de-Tende mountain pass to Monte-Carlo in time for dinner by the sea. Might look to arrange something similar one weekend in June or early July this year. Nothing decided yet, but if any Glocals members think that might be of interest then feel free to let me know.

I'd definitely be up for a meet- Great to see a few car enthusiasts on here! I thought the Swiss speed cameras might have driven you all away

Timing wise, May isn't great for me, June is better, but let's see what works for everyone else

Cheers for the Link Wallstbanker, but I'm a member already :D I'm TT CH. Yours looks amazing- the original shape is just gorgeous

I am wallstreet on the TTforum will look for you TTCH

Rossdonovan: I was deliberating the newer as well, the TTRS looks more appealing its growing on me, but the ones I have seen have been changed I think. The shape was Thomas Freeman, sadly since he left the bahaus style has not continued and his new creations like the crossfire dont quite match. He works now for Chrysler last I read.

PS Thanks Rossd.

Thank you for the post. I like cars and I would definitely be up for drive in the alps. Have you heard about the "route des grandes alpes"? It starts close to geneva and goes down to Nice.

I currently own a porsche cayman S and a BMW 330xi but both are for sale as I'm waiting for a M3 which should arrive next month.

FEDOR: Welcome to the group. I miss the Porsche ride, especially enjoyed the Boxster S I had. Was tempted to go the same way in Geneva. Luckily I did not. I went backwards and fell for the look of my TT and colour. Good luck in the sale.

Rossdonovan: Sorry could not find you on the UK ttforum. I am wallstreet

First Meet Suggestion:

I would like to recommend a day trip, on a Sat or Sun. Something touristic. There are a lot of lovely bike routes that we could try and google and trace. The best suggestion gets a free drink on my treat!

Cheers

I drove behind Bernex yesterday towards Satigny, lovely Essex like fields and single lanes along with curves in the roads....gorgeous countryside when you drive a little further out...

I think I will invite you folks or vice versa, to make it easier to coordinate.

Take it steady around satigny area... quite a few cameras in that area.... should know that's my neck of the woods!

I believe Top gear searched all over Europe for a great driving road.... I seem to remember they found the best in Switzerland somewhere?

   Time to google me thinks....

Would definitely be up for a day trip during the weekend sometime soon.

There's alot of cameras around Geneva, we might even be better off crossing the border into France?

Thanks for the compliment Plums. I thought I had had some serious machinery before (Lancia Intergrale Evo tuned to gr A spec, S3, M3, M3 CSL, RS6+) but the M5 blows them all away. One memorable trip to south of Spain last year we were four-up with luggage and could still outrun a bloke and his g/f in a Ferrari 430. Magic! Cool

Hey guys,

I'm new here in the forum and just stumbled on this thread, a road trip sounds really cool.

Plus I see there are alot of Audi lovers around? Unfourtunately I don't own a TT, but an S4 Avant (B6 model). Amazing to drive, but can also take all my, and my friends/family's, ski equipment when it's time to hit the slopes.

Speaking of which, do you guys know of a good garage around the Lake Geneva region, I'm having some trouble with my sound system atm. I'm thinking of doing some extra installations, but places like AMAG only have set Audi stuff (plus they're terribly expensive). Any tips are highly appreciated :)

An english speaking one would be preferred, my french isn't coming along that well yet:)

Nice to meet you all.

Henric, I was referred to Emannuel of Pitstop Garage, 4 others have done the same on this forum. They do electricals.

I met up with them this Friday and saw them working on electricals on a larger 4x4 mummys car.

Do join us, your car is ideal, its all about enjoying with others not what you drive. Seems to be a Swiss bias to German cars though.

PLUMS: I thought the Stelios Pass would be delightful. I shall look at your clip above as it may sound a nice day trip.

Chrispy: That's quite a car history! Impressive.

Definitely up for Stelvio at some point, but it's not really a day trip. Haven't been yet despite living here for 1.5 years, this needs to be rectified!

For now- something a bit closer for a day trip? The trackday proposal looks awesome as well!

TRACKDAY PLUM: Thanks I like the way I am volunteering you to organise an Event: TRACKDAY

DayTrip: Awaiting ideas

WeekendTrip: Stelvio Pass, circa June (PLEASE send me your available weekends)

Plan would be to go on a Saturday, approx 0800hrs

Lunch in Italy: TBA

Looking into Hotels nearby just one night. I heard a group will be going in May and I will ask them how they rate the hotel and costs.

Sunday: Enjoy an early drive when nobody is on the roads, sunrise.

The idea is to maximise points of interests, stops enroute to make it a MEMORABLE experience. So group think lets see if you can find goggle to come up with ideas and places.

Regarding the Stelvio-Pass road in Italy, the last time I was there I thought the road surface seemed quite narrow and worn in some places. I guess after the winter some more potholes and ruts might appear. Perhaps they will get repaired, although with the current economic situation I have a worrying feeling that road maintenance budgets might be reduced. I would take extra care with vehicles that have low ride height, low-profile tyres etc. In case it is of interest, in central Switzerland there is the Susten-Pass which I thought was quite good last year. The Klausen-Pass is near that region as well which I also thought was ok. Not sure when those routes are open, perhaps from June to September depending on the snow?

I drive the Route Napoleon to the South coast of France about twice a month. It's awesome, but there's a pretty small window in between ice and snow at one end of the season and campervans at the other. If anyone ever fancies riding shotgun let me know. I drove a 3.2 TT Cabrio for a year, changed it for an older MR2 Roadster and never looked back. The Audi is beautifully screwed together though.

Also, not to court controversy but Standard E60 vs F430?! Not even empty with a strong tail wind. As fantastic as the V10 is, the numbers speak for themselves.

Hi Forex,

You say the numbers speak for themselves and indeed they do:

Ferrari 430 (486 bhp) vs E60 M5 (507 bhp).

Ferrari top speed 315 km/h, delimited M5 330 km/h.

More than happy to take you for a spin sometime :)

Cheers,

Chris

Not sure if your offer is serious, because I would dearly love a ride in an E60, it's got to be one of the most understated cars ever and THE super-saloon, but at the risk of blowing the offer, the numbers I was thinking of would be the 1.3 s difference to 200 km/h, the 0.6 s difference over a standing 1/4 (where neither car gets close to its top speed), and the yawning 18 sec lap difference around the Nordschleife. With a power to weight ratio in the Ferrari's favour, I can't see another 250 kg of extra weight closing that gap. OTOH I can safely say that I've driven neither, and both are great cars, and if you own an M5 you've got a serious chunk of metal that makes me pea green with jealousy, but c'mon, an F430?

Would seriously be up for a trackday, subject to price, although until I've completed my engine transplant, I fear I would feel well underpowered.

Both N85 and N75 in France offer some pretty decent thrills for those who like to head South for the weekend.

I love controversy.

F430: 465 Nm    343 lb-ft

M5: 520 Nm    384 lb-ft

Something people forget is the torque, off course the BMW will do far better. Chrispy is on a super diet. He probably forgot to mention his gf is fit. Secondly, the F430 had a larger than life older driver with his larger than life mistress from hell.

Figures to always look at are the torque.

Forex: welcome to the circle of car lovers. PM me how you think Forex is going on sterling. I assume you trade.

Fedor, Plums, Phil: Will look at your points. Lets all do that and decide which one for a day trip. I am away from 22 Apr to 27 Apr, if the UK allow flights in!

Plums: I will not make the track day just added new bits to be bedded in gently uggh!. Can I suggest, you create a day and event, lets invite our friends see who joins. Direct them from here to the Event scheduled ahead. Opening it for others.

Forex, you're right to be surprised, I was too!

Let me describe the scene though, this wasn't some country backroad, where you're right, the M5 wouldn't be able to keep up. This was along a wide, straight highway in the south of Spain.

Without getting into specifics of what kind of speeds we were doing, let's just say at top end the M5 pulls away... several car lengths.

You're right in that numbers speak for themselves but sometimes video can help:

First video is of an M5 with similar mods to mine (ecu delimited, exhaust) where you can see the M5 starts to pull in and would have taken the 430 at higher speed. Second is a clip of a high speed run.

No skin off my nose if you don't believe me and of course my offer still stands for a fellow petrol head! :)

Cheers

Judging from the thread, it seems that we need a few personal facts to show one deserves to be part of the "club", so here they are...

My last two cars have been a 911 4S 997 and a Maserati GT 2009. I have a been Porsche lover forever and I have been part of the PCA. Driving a GT2 on the Daytona Beach track during the Rennsport was my one of my highlights... and just for the sake of controversy I would say the 530 PS (390 kW; 523 hp)@6500, 680 N·m (502 ft·lbf)@2200-4500 require respect :-)

Having said that, I come from a very small town in Italy close to Modena and Maranello, so in a 30 miles radius you have: Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Bugatti and Ducati. Not bad as and areas, right? So, of course Ferrari and Ducati are my other loves

I have not explained why I love Porsche so much, too. My father was an official Porsche driver in Italy in the Endurance and Sport Prototype races and won the championship in 1972. He also did the Targa Florio and the Millemiglia a few times...

Finally, I drove the Honda IS2000 car opening the St. Petersburg Indycar race in 2009 and was invited to the Indianapolis 500 by Andretti himself for the 100 year anniversary of the big American race last year (May 24, 2009)!

So I hope I passed the test to be part of the Glocals Car Lover Club! :-)

BTW: additional controversy (and not too sound like a party-pooper, but) I think there is no reason to go crazy on a public road, so I would not advertise going so fast on a national road or on a highway: there may be no speed limits, but you cannot be sure of yourself, of the conditions of the road and even more of the other drivers. Best to release your energy on tracks. In the US it is very easy to do, how about here? (I guess I have been living there too long) Any driving club around? Who is on?

Happy driving!

Luca

In terms of other ideas town the line guys and gals, of course if we're doing a weekend trip, there's always the Nordshleife :D about 5 hours direct up through Germany, Autobahn and I'm sure there are some nice roads around there too.....

And of course, for a little friendly competition: http://www.mk-circuit.com/ , given the passion on show, I'm not sure I fancy my chances!

Chrispy, you're right, it's surprise more than disbelief. Numbers and videos are one thing, but seat of the pants and experience are another, if you're pulling away, you're pulling away. Kudos, the M cars are fine machines (although I'd rather forget about the X6).

Maybe my surprise relates to Luca's point about driving on the public roads. I do think that driving on the road is a different skill to going flat out on a track, mainly because you always have to keep something in reserve for all of those unexpected things, like other drivers. Although the M5 is a true enthusiasts car, and without naming specific models, I can't help but feel that there has been an unfortunate explosion of ridiculously fast everyday cars that slightly spoil the freedom of driving for car lovers like us. Because, it puts ludicrously achievable speed into the hands of anyone, without giving much in the way feedback, or plain fun, whilst contributing to a negative image of safe performance driving, and providing a justification for speed cameras popping up everywhere. I didn't know the true meaning of speeding fines until I arrived in Switzerland!

I can't claim anything like the heritage of the other car lovers here, but have no less enthusiasm for it.

I'm a Porsche fan too, absolutely love the new Speedster, despite it basically being a Boxster with a weird roof.

I'd be up for Stelvio BTW.

Plums, any idea of cost for hiring the circuit? I used to live in the departement du Var and there is a very nice circuit down there (about 5 hrs away) that can be booked for about 2.5kEUR. If we get a few people together, that's pretty good value. I get the impression that there are a few on here who could give me some pointers too.

On a separate note, and I'm aware of what the law says on this one (even if it is a bit of a grey area), does anyone have any experience of how long I can get away with driving a car with US plates that has been 'lent' to me (i.e. the papers aren't in my name)? Thing is, I would love to ship it over, but not have to import or register it in Switzerland. I've seen a tasty Nissan GT-R on plates from Maine a few times near Celigny, and am wondering how it works, and whether you get hassled everytime you drive through customs?

Dude, I have 3 comments:

1. This is not news. Contrarily to what you say, fast every day cars have been around since always. Think American muscle cars of the 60s, Nissan Skyline, Toyota Supra...

2. "spoil the freedom of driving for car lovers like us" - I think it's wrong to talk like some elitist a-hole, which I'm not saying that you are.

3. Like Luca said, public roads are not for speed driving regardless of your skills. You are putting others at risk and this is not your call. If you got speeding fines you totally deserved them.

Cheers,

Catalin

Alright guys and girls, I think we've got a lot of passion, but to move forward, I think we need to start making this concrete. I've setup a doodle with a couple of proposals for the first "event" and timings, if you guys could fill in what you would like to do and when works for you, we can get to making this happen! If I missed anything, let me know

Big thanks to rossdonovan for getting things moving again with the doodling, and to Plums for putting in the legwork on the trackday.

Unless we're going to get substantially more people together, that is a bit steep for my budget. The open day sounds reasonable though. Can anyone tell me if an open-faced helmet is acceptable?

Cheers.

Hi, thanks for the note. My interests are more along the lines of travelling and touring by car for holidays and pleasure. (No track days, no racing etc). I think someone on the forum mentioned the Route de Napoleon (N85) and I think that sounds interesting. I am going to try that route on 12th June, travelling from Geneva to the South of France. I plan to depart Geneva around 8am or 9am in the morning, and I plan to arrive near Monaco around 3pm or 4pm in the afternoon, depending on traffic etc. If any Glocals members have similar plans and are driving that way in their own cars then perhaps it might be possible to meet somewhere along the way. Regards, Phil.

I've setup a doodle with a couple of proposals for the first "event" and timings, if you guys could fill in what you would like to do and when works for you, we can get to making this happen! If I missed anything, let me know

When'll it be: http://www.doodle.com/kkxwurg7yr3rq42v

ROSSD: I suggest we create an event, let people follow to it.

Sweet- work gets back to normal for me next week, so we'll figure out the details then. The karting is in France- haven't been before, but hear great things about it! Proper high speed karts and a good looking track. http://www.mk-circuit.com/

Count me in as a fan of cars. If you want to truly have fun, you need to join the asphalte.ch club. We have LOTS of owners with exotics.

I've had chances to drive lots of Ferrari's, Lamborghini's and more.

I currently have a Mercedes AMG, I'm getting a brand new Audi and I'm looking at getting my first Ferrari in the near future.

p.s. come to the Nyon fitness stadium on the western outskirts of Nyon on the first Sunday morning of every month to see the exotics of Asphalte.ch.

We have American muscle, Asian cars and of course lots of German hammers too. You'll love it here!

p.s. for those of you flexing your e-peens with 430 vs M5, don't forget that sometimes it is more fun to go fast in a slow car (say an MX5 which is absolute classic) than going slow in a fast car.

Personally, after having spend months behind the seat of an M6 and an M5, I found them utterly boring to the much more aggressive and howling sound and guttural feeling pronounced by a proper Ferrari such as the 430.

There's simply something about the Ferrari which emits the much more intense animalistic instincts within us.

And don't get me going about the straight line speeds. It means crap all once you start to take a car to a track. I've scared more than one person taking them around corners in a 100 or 200hp car versus their 400 or 500hp vehicles. It often is all about the driver.

The only car I ever almost fainted in, was being taken on a roller coaster ride, overtaking other vehicles on the mountain passes of Switerland, in a 300hp Ariel Atom.

If you've ever felt negative gravity, you'll know how I felt.

I was unable to stand nor sit for around 10 minutes after that ride was over...

You will find all the infos about CCSL (the Swiss Crystal Cove super car meeting) on the following page: http://www.asphalte.ch/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6104

This event is open to all. It takes place in Nyon, roughly half way through Geneva any Lausanne. We meet at around 9 or 10 am, and then at 11 or 12, we drive to a place to have lunch.

This meeting varies, but people have come with cars worth nearly a million chf, so you can expect nice cars.

If you like good cars, come here. Don't worry about knowing anybody, the whole point is to see beautiful cars! Talk to owners (many speak english), ask questions, take questions, and if you are lucky or persuasive enough, you can ask for a drive around.

We are very nice ppl and we love cars, so come and have fun!!!

@ Heikki, sounds great, but I'm not sure I'll dare to come with my tiny Miata... Embarassed

@ Rossdonovan, Wallstbanker & all car lovers:  we'll have to plan some trips, either on track or aim for some nice mountain roads.

Shouldn't we create a group so it will be easier to post activities, comments, etc?

Cheers,

Pickachu - good idea to start a group. I'm a car nut - currently have 3 porsches (though 2 going as I haven't enough space) and a Q car volvo. Would be well up for a some hi-jinx either in the mountains or on the track. I haven't time to start/manage a group but would join one if it exisited!

Hi everyone,

just a few lines to say that we had a blast on Friday.  Although a bit hot, the conditions were just perfect.

The track is very wide and well designed.  You have a feeling of safety all around so you can really enjoy pushing the car to its limits.

Not a fast track but as Heikki said, it all about going fast in turns.

I'm going back this Friday.  Anyone free to join?

I would really recommend this to any driver.  There is no best way to know your own car without taking a chance to ruin it, except for the tires...hahaha

Let me know or book directly with the track.

Cheers,
P.

Did they have multiple run groups at the trackday?  The idea of 400hp cars and 100hp cars on the track at the same time is a bit unsettling.

Hi Richard,

no, maximum of 30 cars and open track for 1h30.

The cars were never out all at the same time and it's not a fast track, so a "small" car can be as fast as a "big" one in turns (sometimes faster).

On top of that, 5 marshalls on the track at all time with flags (including the blue one... Wink).

Cheers,
P.

I wish you guys joined me to watch the British Grand Prix at Willi's Cafe on Sunday, it was a nice time with a few friends.

I am new to the list and am in the process of moving to Geneva from the US, planning to bring my '02 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG if all goes well.  I would like to get deeper in the group in a months time or so and would like to join some of your outings, especially on track days and mountain rides.

Cheers,

Todd

Hey guys

Pikachu- if I'm around, definitely up for Spa- would be awesome! Head up via the autobahn- not bad at all.

On a drive/ event, I've been really out of contact the last few months- work has been tough, so not able to plan much. Great to see the enthusiasm though!

I'm going to start a glocals group this weekend to help plan stuff- sound good?

Hi folks,

Rossdonovan, great idea!  We need a place for all cars fans!  I'll let you this task as I'm already trying to be active on the motorbiking group... :oP

I'm hoping that we may manage to all gather some time in the near future to have a nice ride...  I'm up for some track days, touring (over passes) and ice tracks.

I might go back to Bresse on the 30th again. Anyone available?

Cheers,
P.

Pikachu, what's the story for a beginner at one of these trackdays?  Is there a driver's meeting?  Tech inspection?  Special insurance required?

Hi Richard,

Noise check is all they do assuming you car is street legal.

Driver's briefing where they explain the meaning of the flags.

Mandatory 3rd-party insurance but doesn't cover damages on cars, which is at your own risk unless your insurance company provides special coverage for track events.

Again, it's really super-safe.  It was my first outing on track and I wished to have a more powerful, better-handling/braking car already.  Not at all the same sensations as on open roads.

Come have a look first and you'll see how it goes.  People are not racing each other and slower cars will let you go through (so will you when you have a RS4 behind you...hahaha).

Cheers,
P.

I only have a Skoda Superb 2.5 TDi for my long trips to Germany (around 40.000Km/ year) but I like good music and good sound systems.. I worked for a car hifi installer several years and it´s still one of my hobbies.. maybe one of you need some support..advice...

I realized that here in Swiss it´s nearly impossible to find a shop or specialist for this...

Hey all- On Saturday 21st August- Wallst & I are organizing a drive down over Grand St Bernard to the Aosta valley.

Great roads, beautiful views and Italian food. Nice chance to stretch the legs outside of the traffic lights and congestion of Geneva. What do you think?

You can see the route here:
Google Maps

& some very positive reviews of the pass:

Info on Aosta:
