Car Scratch Repair

Hey everyone,

I'm a local au pair and accidentally scratched the surface of my host mom's car. I feel like an idiot and definitely want to get it fixed -- it was my fault. Does anyone know what the cost of fixing a minor/moderate scratch would be? It's not super bad -- it didn't really scuff the car, just took off the paint. Can anyone recommend a good repair shop in the Vaud area (preferably near Bassins?)

Hi,

1) Swiss garages have incredibly high prices ! I would recommend, if possible to have the car fixed in France

2) maybe you have a private liability insurance ? in this case this kind of damage shoud be covered by it

3) maybe you can find a "friendly agreement" with your host family: they get the car fixed through their kasko insurance and you pay them only the "franchise"

Ciaociao

Hi - is it a big scratch? I bought a product from the UK at a hardware store which is like a pen that repairs thin scratches on cars. Look it up on the Internet under JML. Only for minor scratches I think but it will be a lot cheaper and possibly just as effective. I would clear it with your host family first, though. Good luck!

If it would be closer to Zürich... I could have a look..

I have a lot of equipment for car cleaning etc.. products, machine..

If you could take a photo and send it to me... I can have a look and maybe

I can help you.. Most of the time it's only the clearcoat and not the paint and this is very easy to remove..

This is also the function of this "magic" pen what Emma described..

If the scratch is not wide/deep and the body isn't bent, it might be fixed with a professional polish which is not expensive. If it requires actual repainting, bodywork is very expensive in the area, you are looking at a few hundreds francs and might be better off letting the family's insurance take care of it. I don't agree with what someone said about France being cheaper, prices are about the same in nearby France.

Like the others said, it would help if you could post a picture.

Owning a car is one thing but maintaining it is a totally different ball game. The only feasible way of keeping tabs on car maintenance expenses is by being able to do the repair tasks yourself.

To repair a scratch, start by washing the board with soapy water and then drying it thoroughly. To fix the scratch you won't really be removing it at all. Rather, you'll be sanding down the paint surrounding the damaged area until they are both at the same level.
