Changing Employer Canton with B-permit...

This time, I'm the one with a permit question.  Two, actually.

1. My current unrestricted B-permit was issued in VD; I both work and live here.  If I change to a GE employer but continue residing in VD, would there be an approval process that I must undertake?  Are any permit changes required at all?

2. In the past, one of the requirements for the B-to-C conversion was two continuous years in the residing in the same canton.  Is this still the case, and if so, does the employer canton have any impact?

I'm trying to decide on a new job and this stuff matters!  =)

Hi,

Just saying the same. It doesn't matter where you work, only where you live. In your particular case there is nothing to do from your side. Your new employer would have to pay taxes directly to Vaud (if you pay at the source).

You can even "live" in Schwyz and work in Geneva. Say you have your main residence (wife, kids, dog) in Schwyz while you only have a studio in Geneva that you use during the week. That is usually a very convenient arrangement for tax purposes.

I even remember the case of a single guy of Ticino that "proved" he was still living in Ticino (while working in Geneva) by showing his mom was doing his laundry. At least that is what I want to remember since it's funnier that way. But now I digress...

Good luck with the new job!

Thanks to both.

Next question: In Switzerland, it's customary to give 90 days notice when leaving a job.  In fact, it's written into my employment contract.  What are the consequences of leaving early?  Do employers have any recourse here?

you can ( once you have the signed contract from the new employer ) ask to leave earlier. your present employer will usually let you leave but without pay. if you   send a written registered letter, saying you will not expect to be paid etc. ) they will most likely not follow up, unless you are in the middle of a project or they have committed you to some yet unfinished work. best to ask.

I never got a definitive answer.  I did have multiple HR professionals tell me that it's not a problem to change cantons, though.  FWIW.
