Wrong country mate...
Jokes aside, if you take the highest franchise at 2,500 and one of the companies that make you do your own admin like Assura, you will be under 300. I'm talking about the standard insurance "LaMal" obviously.

Approximately what Catalin says, franchise 2500.- with CSS, and using a doctor from their approved list. 274.- You used to be able to take BUPA cover which was cheaper, not sure if it's still true though.

I agree that it is a wrong country to ask such questions.
Still your suggestion is good. Even Swica premium would be less than 300.

I'm coming as a family of four in the new year.. Already not looking forward to buying the health insurance!
I will avoid add-ons like the dentis by coming back to the UK for that, after all i've paid enough in tax here for many years :)

I can appoint a personal doctor back in my country, for the amount I pay here for the insurance of my family. And unfortunately I will have to fall seriously sick to get any benefit of that.

probably a bit late to respond or someone has probably mentioned it, but i've gone with css, 245 chf with 2000 excess....needs to a swiss company cos the international ones like bupa arent accepted in the canton of geneva...even if bupa say they cover you. not worth the aggro of arguing that they do cover when geneva dont accept it.

How does this work, save me some reading on the insurance companies..
I take a policy which costs me say 500chf per month with a 500chf excess.
I go to the doctor because i have a sore head:
The doctor says it's ok, no action .. Do i pay something?
The doctor gives me some asprin.. Do i pay something?
The doctor sends me for a brain scan.. Do i pay something?
Turns out i need a head transplant.. Do i pay something?
What I'm getting at is -- At what point do you pay? Or at what point does the insurance actually 'pay for itself' ?
I'm actually thinking more about the kids, here in the uk if the kid seems ill, has a temperature / whatever I'd take it to the doctor for a check up.. The excess would seem to deter that, no?

you pay (yes, consultation costs maybe CHF 100-200)
you pay untill you payed 500 CHF in total including action 1.
you pay only 10% (since your bills are over CHF 500 by now per year)
you dont pay (I think:-)..the insurance and the state covers the head transplant.
one year later from action 1: you pay again.
