If you're a Swiss resident having basic Swiss medical insurance is a legal obligation (LAMAL).

You won't be able to move away from SWICA without providing them with the name of the Swiss insurance company you are moving to.  BUPA or any other non-Swiss company isn't an option for the legally-mandated basic insurance.  I'm not sure how it works for non-obligatory complementary insurances.

Thank you for this info. Looks like I will have to keep looking. Any idea what the other popular Swiss medical insurance companies are?

I know this post is old but if it can help anyone...

You can have a complementar insurance for 5 CHF/month to cover health related costs worldwide.
