She started spending time in my neighbourhood and now I regularly see her across the street as I return from the office or head out for the evening. She stares at me, unblinking, with those clear, sparkling eyes with a look of slightly sad resignation; as if she knows we should be together but that it cannot be. I know I should avoid her for fear of doing something stupid, but I just can't help myself.

I didn't really want to identify her, but what the hell: here's a photo of her hanging out with some colleagues. This is just across the street from where I live, so the torment is constant.
