Croatia - where to go for a one week holiday ?

Everyone seems to be talking about Croatia so a friend and I are planning a weeks holiday there mid September.

I dont know anything about which resorts are nice, but I would rather spend a bit more and get a luxury place rather than budget tourist trap.  even wondered about chartering a boat and cruising along the coast a bit.

Id love any advice Croatians or tourists who've been there could give.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I go to Split quite regularly and I have to say it is fantastic! It's not well known so much quieter than the big cities but it has its own airport so is easy to get to.

Great beaches, great culture, great history, great nightlife. Its very close to some islands which are lovely to visit for day trips or if you charter your own boat.

Stay in the Hotel Park. Very friendly 5* (I think) place which I'm told is the finest hotel in the area

D.

Hi, I have been almost everywhere in Croatia...going every summer. You should go to the south, it is beautiful. I just came back from the island of Hvar ( Amfora beach resort is fantastic ) and Dubrovnik which is a MUST.

I can not agree with the Split recommendation you got...it is a day trip city but nothing for beach holiday.

Let me know if you need more details. Regards, Rebi

I was to Croatia and LOVED IT!  Would LOVE to go back!!!

it's amazing!

Split is an ok place with the walled city and all but I must admit there are nicer places to see..  Split is a big city so it's like bleeeh... you can go to prettier places! (Split is like Geneva, you have nicer towns around Split that are sort of like Montreaux)

I stayed in Sibenik, very beautiful place and went also to Trogir (nice to see for a day), there is a very nice town called Primosten where the beach is great and it's a small village off the road so you can skip the massive crowds!

I recommend you highly Krka national park, only 45 minutes from Sibenik, it has amazing cascades and green areas filled with olive trees and mediterranean mountains!

Also take a tour of the islands of Kornat, amazing islands in the middle of the adriatic sea with nothing in them, just fantastic beaches with blue skies and blue ocean with little fish around you!!!

I was there two years ago and it was great, still relatively cheap if you have Euros.

As for local food, it would be a crime to go and not eat a Cevapcici!!
