DSLR Nikon D300s + 18- 200 mm F 3.6 - 6 ( 3299 CHF) vs D700 + 24 -70 mm F 2.8 ( 5999 CHF)

Hi Guys

I'm going to buy one of the above tow cam, not sure which one is good, for sure I want to have a professional digital advanced digital SLR cam, is it really worth paying about 2000 CHF more for the D700 kit( D700 with 24 - 70mm FX , F2.8 lence) , I have seen some sample pictures, they are pretty much same quality, as far as I can see the only different is just the full frame in D700 and they use some high tech sensor, but the sensor in D300s dose the same job I guess in terms of picture quality . does it has any other good futures which is worth for this price??? if you have any experience then please shoot, it might help to make my best decision

I wish I had the answers for you, but here's something to consider:

www.prodimex.ch

It has your Nikon D300s + 18-200 listed for 2846 CHF and D700 + 24-70 for 5158 CHF, plus another D700 + 24-120 for 3700.

I'm not sure where you were getting your prices, but if you are looking at places like Manor and Globus, they frequently have equipment which was released 6-12 months ago, not always the latest, and their prices are always inflated (have to pay the rent, eh?)

When comparing products, I frequently go to cnet.com and/or do google searches for "D300s review" or "D300s d700 comparison". Also, I have often found that, unless you *really* know what you want, ie., you are professional, the difference between a 1500 CHF and a 5000 CHF dSLR may be nothing more than 3500 CHF.

There are also "Buying guides" for digital SLR's which guide you through the features you want/need and then in the price range you want. You may just find something perfect for you for less that 2000 CHF. And if you do, I'll only ask for half of the money you saved. ;) Or you can buy me one, too!

Good luck! Happy Shooting!

Hi!

If you really need to ask this question, then no! Sorry to say so, but even the D300s will be an overkill..

I'd suggest not to spend too much money in a body and get better lenses (Nikon is just perfect for spending tons of money on lenses). At the end of the day, any picture has to go first through the lens. If that's a crappy one you can have the best body on earth, won't help nothing.

Also think, every few months there'll be a better body new on the market. Lenses however, you normally don't change as often as a body.

So just speaking in terms of lenses, considering the 2 offers, the D700 kit certainly has the better lens (at least 1 stop bigger aperture).

One big advantage, coming with any bigger sensor is, you can play much better with DoF. Basically, the range of sharpness is getting smaller with the same picture. (well this is in fact thanks to the longer focal distance you'd need, if the sensor gets bigger, but you want to have the same picture).

Have fun anyway, Marc.
