Dear Mr Pickwick's
I understand the philosophy “If you don’t like it – don’t do it; Switch off, turn over or even don’t go! But, I know I speak for a lot of people when I say “Warm Beer – Cold Service”!

As a consumer, restaurateur, hotelier & licensee, in my opinion yours is one of those establishments that you visit to remind yourself just how bad it is. Now don’t get me wrong, as a service provider there are things that you do well: coverage of the world cup, regular football matches, rugby, golf and cricket. If I was a sports fan, I’d probably move in, oh and constant loo roll in the ladies.

But let’s get things into perspective, some of the staff, and by some I mean those that stay long enough to remember where the till is, are friendly enough, with enough provocation. Today I visited for a lunch time beer – flat as usual, to be served by a cold faced girl whom I’d never seen before. It was all she could do to barely turn to me whilst launching my change across the bar. For this privilege I pay! Yes, I know, don’t go.

I pay over the odds for drinking flat lager to be told that it’s the responsibility of the brewery to clean the pipes. I have never, as a licensee, heard of this in my life, but as a proprietor or manager that is proud of their establishment shouldn’t it be taken on by you????

As stated before, you do have members of staff that smile at a regular face, but as for staff training, for the new members of staff it’s clearly this:- Walk around to the annoyance of the working staff, get in the way as much as possible whilst doing the best you can to ignore the customers that we charge extortionately.

Pickwicks has great potential but, in my opinion, is not fulfilling it.

Now, whilst we are on the subject, what’s with the new “security” person you have wandering around? Not wanting to defame or slander anyone, HE IS A LIABILITY. Can he speak? One wonders. Is he sociable? One wonders. In fact, one wonders if is it a case of ‘care in the community’ and Pickwicks is doing its bit to keep him off the street at night. But I say this; you are doing your clientele no favours by having an unsociable, threatening thug wandering around your establishment with some sort of quasi authority. Speak to many or even one of your customers to assess the relationship between this new way of security and happy people in said establishment and I’m sure you will find that he makes people uneasy, threatened and UNSAFE. Perfect cocktail for a relaxing evening out.

Now as I said before, I have the choice to spend my recreation time and a shed load of cash in pickwicks and, of course, if I’m that unhappy I shouldn’t go, but it’s the people and friends that I have that have me attending, but during my attendance, I ask, “WHY”?

I've never had a flat beer in Pickwicks , maybe i'm just lucky..??
do the people and friends that insist on you going on a regular basis, berate it to the same degree..?? if not , why not, if it really is that bad..??
Sorry, just trying to get my head around the amount of venom (for want of a better word) in your posting..??
i give the Security Guy a hearty warm smile and get one back ......

that Pickwicks is pretty decent. Always had nice beer there. And with regards to the staff, what a recruitment policy! It seems the distinguished Mr Pickwick has scoured Eastern Europe (and Brazil) to come up with some cracking bargirls who are efficient, friendly and easy on the eye :-)

...but I will say that for every bad staff member there are several good ones.
For every bad burger or flat beer I've had, there have been several good ones.
Typically the bad experiences were during times when the place was packed,
like during the World Cup, and even then it was mostly pleasant, relatively speaking.
As to the smoke... I hate it too, but it's a pub, what do you expect?

Plus, like someone else mentioned, where else can you watch 5 different sports at once?
If you still don't like it after a 2nd or 3rd time, just go somewhere else. The pubs all have
a similar atmosphere anyway. Just fewer boobtubes. =P
