Dental insurance/refused by Concordia

Hi,

My Swiss health insurance Concordia keeps refusing to insure my teeth and I am in urgent need for a dental insurance.

Any similar experiences or hints which insurance might be more helpful? I had a look at other forum posts and read some good comments about SWICA.

I know that comparis.ch is a good website but can not find the information I need on this page.

Thanks!

Comparis would not really help you. A dental exam is needed before to get a dental insurance. According of the result the insurance company say yes or no.

Thanks Alain!

Some years ago Intras took me without a dental exam and I was wondering if there are other insurances who insure without a dental report.

I am with CSS (previously INTRAS) and have a dental health insurance for less than 40 francs per month. They didnt ask for an exam though!

Thanks again: I just called CSS and they indeed have an option without exam.

It's 120 CHF per month though and they cover the dental costs up to 2000 CHF per year.

Better than not to be insured at all.

Ok, right. Insurance companies provide a dental insurance without pre exam. The coverage provided is the lowest of the options.

I'm not so sure if this dental insurance is "better than not to be insured at all". Dental insurances in Switzerland are almost never worth it. Read the small print before signing: they usually have a delay between the beginning of the insurance contract and the moment they willl start paying - between 7 months and 1 year (you say that you're in an urgent need for insurance - if you have some dental treatment to be done soon it won't be covered).

Also, they often don't pay 100% of the bill - in your example (CSS without pre exam) it's 75%.

If you do the maths (I've done them several times because I asked myself if I needed a dental insurance) you usually get max. 600-700 CHF back per year in total (and this is not accounting for the fact that there's a waiting time during which you pay the insurance but can't claim anything).

That's why dental insurance is - unfortunately - almost never worth the money.
