Hi All, I was told that tenants have a right to contest their rent in the first 30 days after signature of the bail contract. The case is then judged and if the rent if found to be excessive or higher then average, it is renegociated downwards. This is my understanding of it conceptually. I was wondering if anyone knew more about it or had gone through that process, and if so what was the outcome? thanks.

Not sure about the other cantons, but in Geneva there is an agency called ASLOCA. They are tenant advocates. You only have a limited amount of time after moving in to contest your rent,,can't remember the exact number.
The downside is that if you have a big company as a landlord they can keep appealing the ruling in the hopes of you just giving up.
